I am going to approach the field and ask for the first weekend of November. I will keep all posted. If this location works out it will be in NE Illinois about an hour and a half SW of Chicago.

So this started out as a Matrix (TM clone) full length m14 with a black plastic stock, found for $40 on ebay. Here's where I'm at so far- The black stock is kind of a pain but I found a couple of online forums that discussed ways to make plastic look like wood. First I made my cutouts for the sling then applied several coats of light grey primer. Once the primer dried I sanded it roughly and liberally applied a dark walnut stain. I'm waiting to see how well this takes, if it ends up looking okay I will probably put lacquer over it. I fashioned the hand guard out of a piece of scrap wood I found in the garage. I cut it down to size on a buddies band saw and then used his router to round the top and cut out the hole for the barrel. The router left the top of the hand guard with a very square appearance so I used the sanding wheel on my dremel tool to finish it. Next up is the receiver. Using the original m14 receiver I took a hacksaw and cut the whole thing down to just a thin strip, leaving enough that I can still reattach it to the gearbox. Because of the shape of the receiver it was difficult to get a straight cut with the hacksaw. I used the cutting wheel attachment on my Dremel tool to even everything out and create a flat surface which will be needed to glue the new upper receiver in place once I get it all put together. Sorry these are a bit blurry. The original m14 hand guard is great to use for the receiver base. Here I will be using a piece of it for my front sight mount. The rest will be used for the basic shape of the receiver and I will be using Sintra PVC board to fill out the rest of the details. More to come.....

That would be great! I am thinking the first event will be a 1944 France scenario. US/French Partisans vs Germans. There is a large player base down here, just not a lot with the proper uniforms so I really want to give people a chance to get a taste of the gameplay and get them excited about putting together impressions for future events. We need GI's!

Absolutely! I'd love to have anyone on these boards join the FB page but living in Lockport puts you right in the backyard of where I'm hoping to hold the first event. Click the link above and I'll add you. I'm hoping to host the first game around the first weekend of November.

That is an awesome link! I know this site gets linked all the time, but there is a lot of good info here too- www.dererstezug.com/LandserItems.htmFor the last event I played I also searched Google for period European beer labels and had them at our campsite.

Or you could just make your own. Do some research, print labels, try to reproduce the packaging. It's a lot of fun, and a lot more rewarding then paying someone else to do it for you.

Just found a Matrix m14 for $40, Sintra board 3mm on eBay for $16. The bar is set quite high here but I'm going to give this my best!

Hello all! I am working on reinvigorating this hobby in Northern Illinois. When I first joined this forum I was extremely excited to see that the WW2AA apparently started in the Chicago area only to find that there is literally nothing happening here in recent years. I really want to change that. In the last year I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to play with and get to know the guys of MOA and they have been a huge inspiration to me. While I don't expect to be able to keep up with their frequency of events, what I would like to do is be able to hold 2-3 games a year down here (and definitely hope to be able to have them attend) to try and encourage people to not only invest in the sport here but to also think about growing the sport in the greater midwest area. If this is something you are interested in or would like to help out with please join the facebook group below and lets make this happen! I already have my eyes on a couple of possible locations, all we need now is players. All are welcome, even if you have limited kit (I am all for partisans) and no matter what your location. I appreciate input and feedback from all and as I've stated before on these forums I really think it's important that we increase our presence on social media. I would like to start out with ETO battles exclusively though I would certainly be open to doing some PTO events in the future if the player base is there. Thanks guys, Justin www.facebook.com/groups/130201877183893/?notif_t=group_r2j

There has been alot of mention about using facespace, or twiddler, but do people really search for ww2 airsoft that often on those things? I do. As of now I have only found WWII groups in Florida and Georgia on Facebook, and have joined them both. I am going to start one for Illinois as I am starting to find a little bit of interest here. The thing about social media is that it is instant. When going on forums you often have to spend more time searching and sorting through off topic garbage than it's worth to find what you're looking for. Also, the more WWII groups we have on FB the more likely that they will show in search results. I personally do not use Twitler so can not offer any opinions on that other than I find it to be an obnoxious thing #thisthat #pleaseshutup #etc lol. Once I get the Illinois FB page up I will post a link here, even if I am the only member..

Us guys in Michigan get maybe 30 guys a game. I don't know what's going on down there. I really didn't want to tell anyone about this until I was sure but I'm still trying to get answers on if we can use Bois Blanc. (Google Earth it) From my research, most of the island is an abandoned state forest. There is a camping ground and I'm still trying to get in touch with the town hall there. I think if we did a full weekend this summer just to see how it plays(if we can) then we could possibly hold pretty big events there. Myself and a buddy live in Chicago and have been driving up to Wisconsin to play in the MOA games but would definitely be interested in heading to Michigan to play as well. That being said I am currently in the process of trying to garner more interest out here and I think videos, social media, etc all play a big part in that. It also wouldn't hurt to have a couple new WWII movies/video games hit the mainstream again It seems like when Saving Private Ryan hit theatres back in the late 90's there was a huge surge in WWII interest. Obviously that is out of our hands but like I said, couldn't hurt. As for small unit action vs. big scenario games I think there needs to be a nice mix of both. If locally we can keep small groups of 20-30 going and all somehow coordinate a couple of big Eastwind type of events a year (not necessarily 9 days but immersive in scope) with plenty of time for people to plan and travel we have a good chance at keeping this hobby alive.

I've been watching this closely as well. I have been considering picking up the Mosin Nagant springer but will definitely be buying this when it comes out assuming it stays around the $300 mark. I'm hoping they develop a springer option in addition as they have done with the Mosin.

Did you make the rear sight yourself? I'm extremely interested in attempting this as you can get these m14's so cheap..

As long as you already have the necessary upgrades it will be the best investment you will ever make into your gun. My primary rifle (VFC m4 with G&P v2 gearbox and Madbull 6.03 TBB) is dialed in at about 390 fps with .20's. Using .30's I am able to hit man sized targets at 250 plus feet with no problem since having a buddy install the RHop. I am planning on putting one into every AEG I own.

Combat Sport Supply is not only legit but also very a supportive member of the airsoft community in the Midwest. The ownership puts on a big event every year called Codename Thunder which is always a huge draw and the owner is just downright good people. Don't hesitate to order from them.

I would really love to be a part of these events. I know I've pm'd back and forth with all of you guys several times for the last few months about coming out. My interest in all things WWII is what led me to airsoft in the first place. I really wish there was more going on in the Chicago area. Anyway, I will be watching the forums for the April dates. I am on an airsoft team that is very active and we have a large event April 14th that I can't miss, so hopefully it will work out. In the meantime I will try to work on my kit. Thanks guys!

I posted it up on the forums. If I do come up I would probably have to arrive in the morning and leave that night. A lot of driving. I've been watching the MOA forums too, do you guys have anything else for sure coming up that I could have a little more time to plan for?

Do you guys mind if I link this on Illinois airsoft? I want to come (as I do to anything WWII related) but I do not have the proper kit as I would like to, and to be quite honest, this is a hell of a drive to make alone to play an event without knowing anyone that is going. Perhaps I can get a couple of buddies to come along..
