Recently I acquired a few things through ebay that were pretty good deals, but needed a little work. First off was a front seam swivel loop helmet with a junk 80's westinghouse and a parachutist's BDU cover for a Kevlar. The pot was in decent shape, some denting on the crown and the rim was pulled up a bit. Had a horrendous overpaint on it and the cork seemed to be missing. I didn't have a camera on me so I didn't get any pics. I figured I needed a decent front seem for airsoft and this one fit the bill, I paid $30 for it. I ordered fix loops, chinstraps, and some more paint form J. Murray. As I started to remove the old paint, I noticed some white paint in between coats on the rear of the helmet, where the NCO or Officer's bar would be... Didn't see any on the front. The paint stripper I used was some old stuff my grandpa had, really thick and goopy, but it worked like a charm. The interior had some white paint in between the coats as well, which really kind of bummed me out, because I'm sure that was a name and serial number.... Anyways, I removed the old swivel bails and I'm going to send the shell and the new fix loops to my buddy so he can weld them and reweld the rim since only 3 of the original welds are intact, two being the seam. Still has a few dents in it but for my purposes it will be just fine. To go along with it I took my old '61 M1958 Micarta liner and stripped the suspension and it's gonna become a Hawley, so I hope...
I also bought a real Thompson M1A1 stock and modified it work with my gun and hold a 8.4v batt, that was a pain in the @$$. Of course the real big problem I had was the KA metal lower I bought didn't like the CYMA upper I put it on, realllll tight fit and the hole for the long stock screw didn't line up the way it was supposed to. So after some thought I redrilled the hole with a larger bit and it worked fine, then decided to die-grind the receivers, when I should have only made a couple swipes on the upper above the trigger. Took a little too much off the lower, not so much that it's junked, but noticeable when you look at it from a couple feet away. Now I just have to get the right screws for the buttplate and the sling swivels I got. As well as a wood foregrip.. Looks like a rebuilt M1.
