I don't know if this is the right place to post this but i am trying to make a realistic captain America costume like if he was real and was issued gear by the us military during the war. my idea is to kind of make the ultimate's captain America costume (as shown in picture) but custom making the jacket out of navy blue wool and the red and white stripes from canvas and the star from a piece of my parachute. i also need to know if its possible to dye HBT pants navy blue or if there are any good look-a-likes in navy blue. i know i am gonna stick with type two rough-out boots and the leggings and i am thinking of just using a pilots skullcap and goggles instead of making a custom leather cap. i want this to be as realistic as possible with as little custom gear as i can do. if there are any pieces of web gear that look like the ones in the picture i would love to know. I'm doing something similar for a con here in Chicago but doing my own take on it, doing it with as much real-life gear as possible and making it look a little more improvised and dirty.. The main differences are I'm using an actual Garand cartridge belt and M1936 suspenders, losing the mask altogether, replacing the red sweater under the coat with a wool shirt, and possibly wearing reinforced paratrooper pants or OD Wools. The jacket I modified from an existing "Japan Fashion" peacoat to look kind of like a shortened, double breasted version of the M41 Field Jacket and painted on the star and stripes. I added Captain rank pins to the epaulets and replica SSR pins to the collar.
Unfortunately, with the exception of the boots, leggings, and helmet, almost all of Ultimate Cap's costume is fantasy gear. If you look in the first picture you posted, it looks like he could be wearing modified WWII suspenders and the statue posted last looks pretty close to the real thing, but the other two (and most common illustration) has him wearing some custom made rig that only covers his left shoulder and wraps around his left side and appears to be made from pistol belt webbing.
If you need a cheap, durable way to do the shield, I can help with that as well.
