Not sure if this is the right place to post, but does anyone have experience with mantheline's M42's? Are they authentic? Durable? I was thinking about them instead of atthfront's because I'm still growing so I won't spend so much on something I'll just grow out of.

I've had great experiences with that vendor though I've never bought his M42s. I would wager they are a safe buy.

I would imagine they are good, as they are a regular supplier of Blank fire reenactors, and they have alot of used reenactor gear/uniforms too. I personally have WPG M42's and they are great so far after 2 1/2 years of regular use.

If you're going for Paratrooper, then that khaki shirt would be worn under the m42 Jump Jacket. I have never seen a paratrooper in HBT's, just HBT coveralls for training, but never in combat. Also the M42's aren't wool, they are cotton, similar to the weave of the HBT's but much thinner. If you are looking to keep cool in the summer, simply wear a T-shirt tucked into your m42 trouser, bloused into your Jump boots. Over the T-shirt wear the m42 Jacket with sleeves rolled up, and coller cracked open. The best way to keep cool in the heat is to drink a TON of water! Keep your canteen full and sip often. Its better to be hydrated and sweaty, than nice and dry and unconcious. I also find that keeping my m1 helmet on helps keep my head cool. It keeps the sun off it and as long as you remove it for short times to wet your hair and keep air moving over your head, it will help keep it cool.

Hey is the only difference between the airborne and infantry helmet the a straps and chin cup, or are they completely different?

The liner and helmet shell are essentially the same, along with the standard webbing, leather liner strap, and web shell strap. The only real difference is that airborne has the integral A-frame rigging and leather chin cup.

So if I felt like it I could take an infantry liner and add A straps and the chincup?

Yes, but that would require you to remove the outer 2 rivets from the nape strap suspension, along with the lateral front rivets, surrounding the sweatband (the rivets closest to your temples when worn). The legs of the A-frames attach at these rivet locations, but the original rivets would require you to drill to remove. I would reccomend getting a second cheap bare liner and getting an airborne suspension kit from JMurrayInc.com

How easy would it be to strip everything out of it?

Not too difficult if you have the right sized drill bit and hand drill

I see that the original topic has been moved away from but I wanted to add in regards to MTL that you can also find some great deals on his ebay listings. Search for seller grahamcracker1416
