Specifically the M3 37mm Anti Tank gun. I know they were used most effectively in the Pacific in point defence positions with the HE and Canister shot, but would this be a good Infantry Support weapon for use in ETO airsoft games?
Instead of indirect fire weapons like the Mortar or howitzer even, much calculation is needed in the RS versions to actually hit a target, let alone calculating for excessive drift due to lighter airsoft projectiles. So more along the lines of direct fire or "lobbing fire", like a M1, M9 bazooka, M18 Recoilless rifle, or light AT Guns would require less calculations, and more accurate fire. This would also mean that to deploy an AT gun effectively, it would need to be somewhat closer than a Mortar, and therefore the crew would be more likely to be engaged close range. This would require the crew to have backup rifles like the ICS M1, Marushin Carbine, One of the newly found UKArms springer Carbines, or even a trench gun.
I like the Idea of having "THE BIG GUNS" behind the front lines and using radio comms to direct fire to the front, where it is needed. It would add to the Immersion with these "fire missions". ;D
My thought would be to build a representation of the M3 that uses either Compressed air or CO2. Alternately, if the FPS could be kept at a decent rate by minimizing the expansion chamber; possibly powering the M3 like a Spud gun! But, safety first! I had the idea for it, and attempted to do up some drawings that would include:
using mock shells inserted into the breach
mock traverse and elevation wheels
simple but precise sight
built in recoil mechanism to simulate actual recoil! ;D (my favorite part!)
All just in the brainstorming process at the moment, but I wanted to get some feedback reguarding it's usage. Does this seem like it would offset sides too much? Or would it simply add to the Immersion and not really be a deciding factor.
