I would go with Tan or Fieldblau on the bandoleer. As far as a 42 that doesn't cost an arm? there is always hope in the chinese right. The knee pads may have been ditched right after landing but I am getting a set because it is practical and my knees are beat up enough already and it may help Exactly!

Huh, Barry Lyndon never responded to my PMs about getting camo FG42 bandoleers. The feldblau one I have I really like though. Cushman is crap. The plastics they use are VERY thin and fragile, and thats not even talking about the look of it!
If you dont want to wait for Barrys splinter one, SoF.co.uk has splinter ones for 60 pounds IIRC.

i believe goatee's werent typical in the 1940's. From what i remember soldiors were meant to be cleanshaven. but as always there were exceptions Oddly enough, I saw a german soldier (in one of my many documentaries) with a full goatee. I even called my wife over to check it out. Can't remember if it was in the WW2 Battlefront box set or a vintage German propaganda film. A "well-groomed" goatee is another story...

I've seen that picture...different kind of goatee then what gerry528 has. I guess I should have said that style was pretty uncommon. It isn't the biggest deal in the world I would think. His uniform looks pretty darn good. I wouldn't worry about the tat either.

It was actually old film footage. This German soldier in full Wermacht gear was crouched down firing his rifle with a big burly goatee. It was bizarre. Of course it was traditional for U Boat crews to not shave during their entire tour (several months at a time). Let's face it...It's 2007. People do have tattoos and facial hair. I would like to see more reenactors have CORRECT period hair. I HATED the fact that all the German soldiers in Saving Private Ryan had shaved heads! Absurd and completely inaccurate. The research went something like this: "Well they're Nazi's, so they must be skinheads". The main hair style of the German soldier in the 40's was thick on top, shaved on the sides. Many had bangs that hung down to their nose when not greased back (basically an 80's "skater" cut). American soldiers had a similiar cut but much less extreme on the sides. One movie that got the hair right was the German film Stalingrad. When I was in the Army I used to come home from 2 weeks leave with a beard growing and keep it until my first duty day....Just never in uniform of course. If needed, I can post many pics of captured Germans without headgear on.

You would be surprised how many people think Germans had shaved heads in WW2. Seriously. Maybe not on this board, but the general public.....

Aww what the heck- it's fun and educational, why not?
I think Doom pointed out the key fact about the German Soldier and his facial hair- He was Wermacht not NSDAP-
I understand that many of the 'old guard' Wermacht and even those I guess 'drafted' into service during the war hated and despised Hitler and his cronies and were proud to be German Soldiers, but not so supportive of the Nazi's or I guess the SS either.
So I could certainly see a German Army soldier growing his face out, but I wouldn't so much see a card-carrying party member doing that.

Yeah, i asked him straight off of his E-bay store and he replied the will be available in early February in the correct Splinter B pattern and made of HBT. Cushman stuff ain't so bad, i have a paintball team, we only play at WWII based scenario games and we use a few of their items helmets, dress up kits etc. I wouldnt use them for hardcore play ...but they make great pictures, props and are always attention getters at big scenario games! Here are a few pics of our cushman props We tone it down and dont get to crazy with historical accuracy (obviously) Heer smocks in splinter OD BDU's and such! Lots of fun and all the extra effort gets you noticed

I have a cushman helmet, and I have handled one of their M1919 kits. Plastic was pretty bad on both. I emailed Barry but never recieved a response about the bandoleers Of course I also emailed him about doing a custom a month ago...and never heard from him again - until I saw some on his store.

In the book "Infantry aces - The German Soldier in WWII" Check out some of the pics in the Erich Lepkowski Chapter you will see more than one paratroop with goatee's and full blown beards! Again Im sure this wasn't standard practice just lack of facilities and shaving paraphenalia I'm sure.

Its just a weird reenactor belief that all 5 000 000 German land soldiers were clean shaven, between 130-180 punds 7 foot tall and had blonde hair and blue eyes. Don't flame you get the point right. There were numerous bald soldiers, bearded soldiers, fat soldiers etc. Don't take this post as offensive but I am just tired of people being so meticulous about tiny, unnecessary things I am tired....good night

Just so you guys know I actually own something, I'll throw in a picture of my pile as well. What you see: splinter jump smock, bandolier, Luftwaffe tunic, DAK tunic, DAK helmet, Fallschirmjager helmet, MP40 repro pouches as well as vintage (brown leather) MP40 pouches, Maruzen P38, HFC Mauser, S-3 MP40 w/repro sling, repro grenade, P38 holster w/blank firing P38 inside, DAK soft cap. What you don't see: trousers, boots, Marui P38, HFC Mauser rifle with scope, K98 pouches, RAD officer's knife, Czech "look alike" PPK style 32 cal pistol, DAK belt, Wermacht belt, bread bag, tan helmet cover, 2 canteens and and a gas mask tin. I didn't have the room to drag it all out. Some of this stuff is NOT needed (I am thinking of selling all the DAK stuff). Doom, I'd love to see the DAK kit! Its something you dont see all that often!

Doom, I'd love to see the DAK kit! Its something you dont see all that often! In a couple weeks I'll post a pic of the full Fallschirmjager Gran Sasso outfit (with me in it). I sold a lot of the DAK stuff last week as I am moving next month and am cleaning house. So I can't really do the DAK any more

Gerry...is that officer piping on your NCO M43 cap? You got me Capt. Zak! I actually bought that cap for a different reason and not for the kit, later I just put the LuftWaffe eagle on it. You missed the Werhmact belt buckle in the splinter photo's I changed it out for Luftwaffe buckle in the tan and Water ones

That officer pipping should come right off the M43. If it's not sewn into the seam just remove the stiches and you can get rid of it. I did notice the buckle but didn't want to beat you up all at once. The buckle was less distracting. The silver pipping on the other hand stood out like a turd in a punch bowl.

Not trying to keep this topic alive forever, but I was watching a German theatrical propaganda film from 1943 and I saw this scene of soldiers on a smoke break...one had a long goatee (far right). Had to post a frame from it!

"Never" is a very restricting term however "out of norm" is a good phrase I think for this.

So many things about most persons impressions are going to be incorrect, so why try and do something out of line on purpose? Combined with all the other faults, it will give a wrong impression.

I bet someone will start a group called the 30th SS Bearded Division.
"VEE ONLY HAF SEE BEERDS!"
Back on topic, what color piping would an Officer in an SS panzergrenadier regiment have? I've read white since some PG groups were formed from existing infantry but I'm just curious and want to make sure.
