I would like to host a Battle of the Bulge event on Jan 11th, at Lash's Paintball in Johnstown NY. No real details yet on a specified mission set, just the backdrop.
This is by no means ON! I would like to get everyone's opinion on the date, and who would be able to attend said dates. I understand it will be cold and most likely be snow on the ground, I can possibly supply a heating tent in the safe area for those who would like it durring setup or while reloading. There could also be the possibility of hot refreshments served at one point at my house just down the road.
I am also trying to set up my own private airsoft field across from my house. I plan on making heavy use of trenches and foxholes for cover. There's nothing wrong with Lash's, I just don't like the heavy use of pallets and dispersed "junk" for cover. I would like to make my field with ample "period correct" cover, emplacements and props. The field will be plenty big enough to host events with 50+ attendees. I would guesstimate its 25% smaller than GZA's field.
More to come once we make some headway!

I obviously couldn't commit until closer to the date, but as of right now it looks emminently do-able.
If it's not too cold that would be AWESOME to do some snow fighting. I don't fancy ponying up for a WH greatcoat, hopefully it won't be necessary!

I actually just grabbed up a US wool overcoat, it feels really warm, perfect for a winter event. For the guys I will be outfitting with my gear, I would suggest layering under the uniform, but it all depends on the temp.
Depending on the location, I may be able to make this a 2 day event. Early arrivals on Sat. and fighting into mid Sunday. That will all depend on who is willing to stay for a second day. I doubt anyone will be playing paintball in the winter, so a follow up day on Sunday seems viable.

BTW, if this does happen I have a smaller size (I think 38R) US WWII greatcoat that I could loan out-- unless I foolishly decide to portray a Landser wearing a comically undersized captured coat (which I can about guarantee actually happened at some point in the war).

I will of course be there with my two boys and maybe a 4th. But I would like to suggest a date change to the following weekend of Jan. 18th. That is a Holiday weekend (MLK) and some have off on Monday (including yours truly and my two school age boys). Just a suggestion.
Also, Setting up a field at your home is a great idea if you can pull if off. The smaller size would really come into play given the current size of our events. GZA is 60 plus acres, so if you have 15 plus acres, that would be more than enough. Quality over quantity.
Very good news Nate. Keep it up. See you on the 9th

I can do the 18th. I am trying to make it so my brother and Matt will still be home from college, but I'm sure they would still be home by then.

Battle Of The Bulge Jan 18th & 19th Lash's Paintball, Perth NY $20 Per person, Pay at field I am still planning the objectives and missions for the event, but I am trying to plam everything so there will be minimal downtime. No simple cature the flag type games, I will have a full narrative with props and HOPEFULLY a M29 Weasel at our disposal! I will have campfires in place at both the German and American camps, so we can all warm up between missions. I will also consider doing some night missions Sat night, although I doubt anyone is crazy enough to camp out, I will have provisions to help get everyone packed away should they decide to participate in Sat night missions and then split for warmer shelter for the night. Night missions Sat and a Second day on Sunday all depend on who is willing to participate for the second day! I will take a count, and decide the duration of the event, depending on the willingness of the participants. I need your feedback! But please only specify a preference below if you actually plan on attending! I need to know definitvely who is willing! If you plan on attending, Please PM me with your Impression (German Wehr, SS, or FJ OR US Para, Inf), your primary weapon and a phone number to contact you at (an Email works too). I need to know your primary weapon, because I plan on making this a RIFLE HEAVY event! Each team will have only a few designated SMG gunner positions. These team members are the only ones allowed to operate on FULL AUTO! All others who are designated as riflemen, despite the actual weapon type you are holding, you will be regulated to SEMI only! this is to limit the use of "Spray & Pray" tactics. I want to emphisize the use of squad tactics here. FIRE & MANOUVER! I will also be designating anyone who has a LMG/HMG as the team's Machine gunner. He will be allowed to have extra bags of BB's and speed loaders for his own and his team's weapons on the field. He will also be appointed a Machine gunner's assistant, and must both operate as a team within their team. These roles can be swapped between team members between missions, so everyone can have the opportunity to go HAM ON FULL AUTO! I would like to make this event about having fun in our hobby, but also try to make our hobby as realistic as possible! With that said, here is an outline on the uniform requirements: US: Either the M42's or M43's for Para's OR M41 Parsons Jackets, or M43 Jackets, both with wools or HBT's for Regular Infantry Proper webgear with ammo pouches for your specific weapons, and preferrably some way to carry extras whether it be a Musette bag, Haversack, or GP bag BOOTS! I know it will be cold, so I will not stress correct boot, just make sure they are warm! M1 Helmet or jeep cap. I would like everyone to have some kind of head cover on, even if its just a green knit cap BED SHEETS! yes I said it... I have some already made up to use as winter camo. USGI's didn't have proper white camo durring the bulge, so they improvised! I would highly suggest doing the same! (especially if you dont have a period correct-ish jacket to wear) German: Any of the Wool uniforms will be ok (M35-M44) If you don't have such items, any of the german camo pattern jackets or smocks can be worn as a substitute with either camo or grey trousers. proper webgear with weapon specific ammo pouches, and make sure to have a way to carry extras into combat (breadbag, or something similar will work) BOOts! again, if jackboots or lowboots cannot be had, any warm boots with gaiters can be worn Any German helmet with or without covers, or a field cap can be worn. Or anything of that nature (preferrably grey) Bedsheets can be worn by any german, but I would prefer this to be a US only item (for recognition purposes) I will be recruiting locals at this event. They will not be held to such "high" standards as you fellow WW2AA board members, but I will help them look somewhat period correct. (10ft rule applies for all participants) Partisans are also welcome to attend, just try to find some authentic looking clothes, that are warm enough. I am really looking forward to this event! Please give any imput or voice any concers you have!

Great job Nate.
I'd like to say to everyone reading this thread that this is a very nice field for this event. It has a lot of character and is very conducive to this event theme. The few of us out there who are keeping the flame burning here would really like to see more members make the effort to attend. Spread the word and bring a friend. Let them be French Resistance, just get them involved and interested.
I'll be there with Dean and hopefully a few others. I'll pm you our registrations asap. Let me know how I can help.
Great job again,
Migs

Count on my dad and I being there, with the possibility of a few other german players possibly 2 others! If others want to camp out, I'd probably be in, since I have a full fur parka

In support of this event I would be willing to ship loaner WW2 weapons and spare magazines to Brownien to issue out or have on hand.. Just get them back to me when the event is done. I can provide up to 18 weapons although realistically 6 to 8 would be more reasonable and should cover your needs.

Wow! Thank you 2ndBat! Once things get closer, and there is a realistic headcount of those who need loaner guns, could you give me a shipping quote on the number specified? Anyone requiring loaner guns can split the shipping costs. Shouldn't be much at all per person.

I want to support this anyway I can. (within reason) IF US uniforms are needed to encourage our members to entice additional participants let me know what is needed and I will use the uniforms as padding for the weapons! I have a bunch of these carbines (eight) 3 of my base homebuilt Garands, a couple Thompsons, a couple MP40s, a couple STG 44s. i have additional weapons as well BARs, Springfields, 30 Cals but I frankly am not comfortable sending them accross the country as loaner weapons! unless the turnout requires it!
This armory and my costume shack is on hand to support events. let's make this event happen.

The one thing I don't want to do is ship a bunch of items that aren't used because people who said they needed them don't show up, so be committed! if you request this support and can identify your needs I will provide it. If that means five weapons and uniform sets that's fine, if it means 15 that's fine too. i want this event to have no excuses for success. recruit your buddies but be realistic about their likelihood of coming. Brownien, I will eat the cost of this shipping but will need an accurate list of needs. Anticipated sizes etc. That means folks will have to get the sponsors accurate counts and commitments well up front. Incidently this is the right thing to do for all participants even the ones with all their own gear. The weapons will all be good, functional weapons (mostly the carbines) which work great and will honor the events desire for lower rates of fire. Each weapon (carbines or AEGs) will include plenty of spare magazines. Each AEG will include two batteries that will need to be charged before the event. The costumes are just that but will easily pass the 10 foot rule. Lots of wool scarves and jeep hats.

I would just need to know sizes required well before the fact and as this draws closer could itemize whats available to draw from. The gear and weapons would be on a first debs basis. I'll provide a sign out sheet and the only thing I ask is that the guns come back uncocked with empty magazines to preserve their springs and the clothes are packed dry for their return. I would also ask that web gear be left as it is set up (although it could be adjusted for size). What I mean by that is leave the suspenders, pouches and gear that is attaced in place. It is eaier for me to inventory upon return and it improves the looks on folks.

I haven't really laid out any time table yet. But most likely 10am Sat. I will most likely want everyone there at 9am for sign ups, check ins and briefings. I will have a timetable up soon.
Also! GERMANS! The fatherland needs you! I know its early yet, but so far there are mostly US forces signed up! I will build in ways to even the odds if one side is larger, but we need some Germans to begin with!

I'm hoping to bring at least 2 other Germans with me! Possibly 4 others! Also, I think mark is planning on going. If he can bring his brother, we COULD potentially have 7 germans with just us.

That would be a good start! I know it may be wishful thinking, but I am hoping to have at least 15-20+ Germans and even more Americans! If any of you know anyone in the reenacting community who may like to go, or if you can get in contact with anyone of the board members who have gone dark recently, please try to contact them! I am doing my best locally to kindle some support, and possibly get some reenacting guys out. I would like to see some familiar faces that we havnt seen recently, but new ones are more than welcome! I am really hoping that having some bigger events will help get our hobby back to what it used to be!

Even though seeing old faces is always nice, I feel new blood holds the future for WWII Airsoft here in the NE. So for those who are out there recruiting, keep it up. We need the new blood. The best thing about this event right now is 2nd Bat's generosity to provide us with loner weapons and uniforms. This alone should make it so much easier for new players to come as they are and change into proper impressions and be provide with period weapons. Bravo 2nd Bat!

I am absolutely thrilled to do it. Keep recruiting. Bear in mind that half the folks who swear they are coming, end up backing out so keep recruiting. I hope I really have to dig deep to provide enough gear and weapons.

We can't thank you enough 2nd Bat. Currently, 4 of my 6 men need uniforms and 3 need weapons. That may change though, because this event is after Christmas.
