Gruß, Im wondering how much interest there is for German Forces reenactors in the North East to form a organization? As German reenactors we have already spent a bunch of money on our individual uniforms and gear so I'm not suggesting we portray a particular unit right off the batt. What I am suggesting is that we form a group based on the German military methods of command, tactics, drill, and camp life und culture. I think with a little organization and coraspondance amongst all of us who may have interest in such a thing we can go a long way to improving our immersion in the experience of Reenacting the German Army. I would like for our events in the north east to take a turn toward weekend long events with an encampment. It seems that here there are two few of us right now to form units and we all have different fancies as to which unit we prefer to portray. So let's put that aside for now and form a German Army group that is sharp and cohesive both on the field and in camp. If we can build enough momentum, individual units of your choice could soon follow for you to command. But for now we can all take turns practicing the different roles within a unit an not worry about the fashion show part. We all look real good as we are anyway One of my thoughts is to ask the admin to let us create our own category on the North East area of the forum so we can create our own threads under that subgroup pertaining to this topic. That way we can talk about topics pertaining to our Kamfgruppe in their own categories. Was denken sie kerle?

I'm definitely in! I've been trying for a while, and have managed to get one new recruit who should field with us next event. The problem is: what unit? lol. My suggestion would be a Kampfgruppe, and maybe select 1 FJ unit, 1 Heer unit, and 1 ss unit. Nonetheless, hope this gets going!

Well, many German army groups had all those elements and more throughout the conflict. I think we could suspend disbelief an cater that toward the events we hold or attend. What matters to me is that we act and speak like the German Army of 1939-1945. But we can start the discussion of the armie groups we should try to portray. Most of our events are based around Normandy scenarios so Army Group West may be a Starting point for summer And sixth panzer army for winter. Especially since we are fighting a lot of 82nd airborne troops

I'm inclined to suggest we not try to name ourselves after a historical armee gruppe but make up our own name for the gruppe to represent ourselves, such as Heeresgruppe Nord-Ost. We can portray what ever armee we want to suit different events and scenarios and tweak uniforms towards that end. I'm going to keep collecting a verity of uniforms so I can switch it up and not always be the FJ guy. One thing I would like to encourage is that members switch roles at a game and we move away from rank and seniority. So that way everyone gets to learn how to command a squad or be a support gunner or rifleman. I like the idea of Gruppefürer of the day. I bet this dynamic will work great as long as we keep in mind that this is play and have a helping mentoring attitude, deep respect and patients towards each others abilities. I know this is against the time honered tradition of Reenacting units with all the rank and pomp we are used to but I think for airsoft teams we don't need that, we just need willing players who want to have fun.

I googled Heeresgruppe Nord-Ost and it doesn't exist so I think we should take it.

Ah alright, so lets stick with that. I agree that we shouldn't portray any real group.

I also agree, we shouldn't have a lone specified leader, as you said.

you'll find that naming yourselves this way will allow you the maximum amount of unity while also allowing players to explore a wide range of impressions. This approach works great on the west coast
The US forces were simply Able Company while the germans were Kampfgurppe Melick [after the senior member] Both units had just under 18 rostered participants
ABle included Both Airborne and glider troops, KF Melick was built around an Fj main effort with a small Heer reconnaissance unit and some occasional SS Pnzr grdrs. we did both Italian and Normandy theaters.
search the operation bergspitze threads for images.

Thanks Paladin6, Since there is only a handful of us here in New England and the north east area I'm hoping this suggestion will be appealing for payers. That way there is no need to buy a whole new kit to start playing. This is unofficially how things roll here in the north east anyway. Since we have small numbers players just show up with what they got and we figure things out on the field. What I am trying to do s set up a website and forum for German forces so we can plan and organize for events as our own entity. But so far, we only got 2 on the roster, me and LSSAH1944, lol! Yeah, we are pretty small yet over here.

I am trying to get a Wehrmacht impression together myself, and I'd like to join up! But at events, I would most normally take the side of the fewer to balance things out a bit.

But look, Everything I have said in earlier post about switching roles and command is all just me thinking out loud. I would kind like to retract those statements. As we organize those sort of things can be figured out later. It is kind of silly of me to think that a new member who just joined should be given a command role or allowed to use a $650 MG that the owner doesn't want loaned out to just anyone. What I would like to see though is every one getting a chance to try different roles within the squad and people to lead when they are ready. As far a seniority we will need some kind of rank structure to give senior members their due and to also emulate a military force. War is not Utopia, I guess I was being a little too hippyish with that idea. But this is a new group, and it will take input from everyone involved to get this off the ground. I want to get us a website going but will wait until we have a consensus on a name for the group. Let me know what you guys think about Heeresgruppe Nord-Ost and give any other suggestions we could use as well if you can think of something that sounds better.

I know I personally don't want to be anything more than a rifleman. I wouldn't mind being a corporal, in charge of a squad sub-section, Oran MG ammo bearer, but I would want to stick with my rifle. But with that said, I would do whatever is asked of me! Also Jer, I was thinking of getting the matrix mg42 once it comes out, so the Germans have a dedicated mg for events I put on, but if you are going to have one through this group, I may hold off and save to make a m1919a4 for the allies. It would be cool to do something like this for the allies too. I know the US didn't really have an equivalent "kamphgrupp", but have something like a US 1st Field Army, encompassing several infantry div's, AB div's, and armored groups (I would need to brush up on my logistics first!)

Nate,
If those MG42s ever ship, I'm supposed to be getting one. So save up for that 1919A4!
Apart from joining up (of course), I'll be mining my background on the boards of various non-profits and volunteer organizations to help Jer-- who has similar experience-- work out the structure that will in turn allow the more practical decisions to start being made. More to follow soon!
And I don't know what group name could top Kampfgruppe Nord-Ost! Sounds like a winner to me!
