The field in Neilsville, WI has permanent structures and dug in positions, one of the best fields I've ever been on.

You can make a pill box out of wood boards use stucko or spray foam on the outside to simulate concrete and Paint it. This is what i made a couple of years ago: [/URL]

I am working on a way to get the pieces to lock together but still break down for easy transportation.

I have a very cheap design for some land mines. They used 4" cut sections of PVC tube and balloons filled with gas. There is a knife mechanism that cuts through a piece of paper down into the balloon when the Head is stepped on. Then, three cut tubes eject BB's and powder while the popping balloon makes for the sound effect! Sometimes there is nothing better than having a mine field that goes boom! That's brilliant! I'm going to have to do some experimenting.

Why does it seem people have more interest making a plywood maginot line then recruiting people? Shouldn't more efforts be put towards that?

Why does it seem people have more interest making a plywood maginot line then recruiting people? Shouldn't more efforts be put towards that? Why the negative tone? There is room for both endeavors, and each one feeds the other. Developing interesting props and weapons can help (but is not necessarily essential to) recruiting people to come and play, while more players mean more manpower and expertise to contribute to improving the hobby through making creative structires and weapons. I agree that getting more players is the most important factor-- the best environments in the world aren't much good if there aren't players to fill them-- but I don't see any reason to discourage people from discussing ways to make our playing fields better.

I agree with insterburger here. Often I hear re-enactor types not wanting to give our sport a try because we fight in wood pallet structures and ect.
Having better props to go with our creative scenarios and tactical airsoft combat could help generate more interest in the sport. That and having more regular events.
I'm working on holding regular "training day" style "events" too let people know we are active!

There is a bit more to it then "Plywood cities". In general, many airsofters just get a basic look and don't try to go all in, just good "enough" and for some blank fire guys, that isn't good enough. Another thing that they can and sometimes freak out about eye wear like goggle that are "farb". Personally, that annoys the nuts out of me when they freak out over a safety device just because there aren't repo's anz rated for airsoft.

One big factor: the style of events. Many reenactors, including myself, despise the idea of these short, individual scenarios. I don't really care for structures, but what would make a better impact: 24 hour full immersion events.

I am trying to move towards full on 24hr scenarios, but with such few players, its really hard logistically. With even 40 participants total, it would be much easier. I just think with our current numbers here in the NE, its going to be tough to do. Not impossible though.
I hope that my next event in June/July will be a continuous weekend event. Its going to take alot of planning and support crew on my part

full on emmersive events are absolutely what we should (and I think) are striving for. Jump to Destiny was always such an event where folks arrived, were placed in units and were in roll throughout the weekend with training, mission briefings, rehearsal for the missions and then a prolonged mission phase.
We had about a third of our participants from BF units and most thought it the most engaging living history experience they had ever been to. It had vehicles, encampments, formalized leadership, authentic maps, communications equipment, pyro, fortifications and great props. Much support from living history groups and the military vehicle club and a good workable game play design.
It required tremendous time and resources to put on and sadly the cadre required is hard to draw from and financial costs too hard to absorb.

In an effort to reinvigorate WW2 airsoft in the northwest I have compiled sufficient uniforms and gear to cloth a hodgepodge force of mixed airborne and leg Infantry in costume quality get ups able to dress roughly 20 GIs. This has been an effort spanning 20 years of scrounging and creative liberties but the look is quite decent. I am in the process of trying to assemble a sufficient look to outfit a dozen Heer aggressors with a few SS mixed in. The goal is costume quality. "At a glance" impressions.
My past efforts have shown this to be the only way to put together decently sized events shy of promoting events that are WW2 "themed" as compared to true living history events. My visionisbyno means the ideal but hopefully are a step in the right direction.

How many 98's do you figure you need? Now that the weather's cooler and my garage isn't an oven anymore maybe I can get restarted on some projects.

My ultimate goal is to have 12 complete set ups for Germans and have seven or eight of them armed with cock em everyone rifles.
