I did see intro thread up top, but I also wanted to ask a few questions, and share a couple ideas I had. First to get the introduction out of the way, hi I'm steck, I am in the kansas city area, and my room mate and I are planning on acquiring WW2 german kits from roughly the battle of the bulge era over the fall/winter and joining your ranks by spring. Our rough plan is to start off with a basic rifleman kit, then he is planning on expanding his kit into a machinegunner and I am either going to go the same route or more panzergrenadier. I am a hobby engineer (no degree, no formal training, but I can design something that usually works without much of a problem) and hopefully by spring in addition to my riflemen kit I can have a working panzerfaust that shoots a foam head.
So I did use the search function, got a lot of results and only went through the first three pages or so. I was thinking about making a Kar98k clip fed springer using the Dboys kar98k real wood0 ejecting shell as the stock and then using the guts from a bar-10. It seems a bit easier for a first gun than tracking down a stock or demilled/ruined kar98 and making it all fit.
Then just to share, so I dont just come off as a noob asking questions, my plan for a panzerfaust is to make the actual charge out of two pieces of open cell couch foam cut in half and hollowed out to reduce weight and allow it to collapse in on itself when it hits something to reduce force. Make the wooden stick out of some 3 or 4lb density foam so I have some weight and rigidity to the whole structure. Then possibly in the future upgrading the charge to have a set up similar to an airsoft grenade in the head to shoot out BBs. Then the actual launcher will be a tube with all the launching equipment, probably an electric valve instead of the turn ones so its more realistic. The goal is to get this whole thing flying off of a Co2 cartradge but if that ends up being to much force I might just go with propane.
One more question while I have it on my mind, we haven't decided on a unit to mimic in this, I am thinking a general Heer outfit for the uniform would probably work best, is that correct?
Thanks, Hi again, I am sure I will have more questions later.
EDIT: I completely forgot something important. I have asthma that acts up when I run a lot or am carrying a lot of weight or playing the xbox kenect version of fruit ninja. Any ideas for carrying an inhaler on my kit where its easy to get to, hard to loose, and doest look super obvious?
