Heres the main problem. We can barely field ww2 people. For a line battle, youd need at least 50 people to have it worth the effort. That's over twice what we usually get out here for ww2. Exactly. But in defense, I think this was for the most part a theoretical discussion just for the fun of thinking about it. At least I hope no one rushed out to get a Regiment of Foot impression put together.

Indeed this strikes me as a theoretical discussion but entertaining nonetheless.

Obviously I would never venture into this field before WWII Airsoft got a solid base and even then it'd be one of those "because we can" things. I'm actually working at finding a big place Southern Michigan so you NorthWesterners might make it out here for a game or two.

I see this as the same route as our WW1 threads. They hardly lead anywhere in the form of action, but they are fun to talk about! We need active WW2 airsofters! But theres no harm in chairsofting about WW1, Civil war, Rev war type airsoft.
I think having two barrels for a BB and for powder would be ideal. it would prevent gumming up the BB barrel. But If you use some kind of ramrod arrangement that actively cocks the piston on a springer type gun, I think that may work just as well. You have to remember with Gas, upon firing, its the liquid propellant vaporizing into gas that propels the projectile, but you don't just have that gas exiting the barrel. You really need silicon oil in the gas to maintain the seal on all rubber O-rings and some of that silicon oil in the gas resivoir will come out the barrel, most likely turning any Talc powder into a messy paste.
Why not use a 8mm BB? I know theres no 8mm barrels available, but a straight peice of auto brake line would do the job. You could possibly make the ramrod actually push the entire inner barrel rearward to cock the rifle once the powder and BB is in the barrel. It would also be pretty cool to have a working flint lock mech that releases the sear when it flips forward. You could potentially use actual black powder in the flintlock mech to give a nice flash in the pan when the springer part of the gun is released to fire the BB.
