They may be rebranded versions of the same rifle but one is Greengas (redfire) while the other (matrix) is CO2. Both have attractive price points and look quite good.

Yeah, if it is indeed a rebrand, there will likely be green gas mags available.

I have one of these and it does seem to be a rebrand of the red fire.
the major difference is it comes standard with one of their conversion mags allowing you to use green gas or co2 8gram canisters .
I bought two additional mags of the exact same design from airsoft megastore but they do not fit this rifle. I suspect they can with some sanding to the rear sidewalls of the mags but was disappointed that theres some tolerance variance there that hangs up the fit.
on green gas it fires reasonably well. Ive not had many gas guns so I can't attest to how it holds up to a Tanaka. I can sway i wasn't all that blown away by its range or accuracy, but most of the performance of this rifle seem to come from using co2.
I don't have any yet so will have to follow up on that point.
otherwise nice rifle model, works pretty well. I'd still feel grossly outgunned by a US rifleman with a Garand 1 VS 1

That sucks that the mags don't fit. I was hoping they would since this is now our cheapest option until somebody restocks the red fire.

I might be instead a copy of the G&G Kar98, which would explain why the redfire mags wouldn't work.

to be clear, the mags are an exact match to the matrix ones they are about a whisper too wide at the rear base of the frame of the mag. this is what is inhibiting the mag to seat.
I believe some sanding will make this work.

With gas guns I have found better consistency and better performance with CO2 over greengas. Hopefully a little sanding will do the trick as 10 round capacity requires multiple spare magazines and costs quickly add up. Thanks for your report Paladin.

I actually found the opposite to that. Through my experience between CO2 and Green Gas is that CO2 is more powerful with the first few rounds, but then quickly loses power, and Green Gas doesn't lose power and the power will remain consistent. I also always enjoyed the fact that green gas makes guns run smoother.

I remember myself stating on this forum already that the PPS/Redfire one has varaible FPS.
Infact, I modified a PPS-bolt and uses it with my Tanaka, doing 325fps.

we're not asking about that one per se since this one is different enough to need alternations to make the other mags work.

I believe some sanding will make this work. Paladin, I just received my Matrix Kar98 from Evike, and the PPS gas mags I bought from megastore fit without any problems. The megastore mags are the green gas only ones as well, that look like a copy of the Tanaka. You may have gotten a faulty rifle, and might want to try and exchange it if you can. Sorry to hear that it did not work out for you.
