Battle Of the Bulge
January 17th & 18th 2015 This event is still on! Nate and I are trying to work out the logistics to still make this event happen. I will be posting specific details very soon. Attachment DeletedThis Event has been re-supplied and is definitely on!
Please read the following information very carefully as there have been some logistical changes.
1) Registration for this event is mandatory. You must send in your registration to Joe Migs email. email address: SfcMigs@gmail.com
Registration must include: Name Age Impression Weapon(s) Email
2) Pre-payment options: We are accepting pre-pays now thru PayPal.com. The amount is $30.00 and should be sent to the same email address as the registration. Pre-pay dealine is 1/12/15.
****These pre-pays are vital for this event to happen. If we don't have a expectant number of pre-pays, this event will be postponed and all pre-pays submitted will be promptly refunded.
3) Anyone who wishes to pay at the field must still register, but will be charged a higher amount to participate. This amount will be $45.00.
4) Due to unforeseen circumstances, Nate will not be able to offer lodging at his residence. Anyone making the trip and needs a place to stay, I highly recommend the Hotel I recently booked. I've stayed there every time I played at Nate's field. It is about 10 minutes from the field, very accommodating, includes breakfast and is very clean. They are running a special on suites for $80.00 per night. You can easily sleep 4 to a suite, that's $20 bucks per. Not Bad! Make sure you book the suite. The regular rooms are more. Link: www.microtelinn.com/hotels/new-york/johnstown/microtel-inn-and-suites-johnstown/hotel-overview
5) Game play: This event will have a similar theme to my "Bastogne" event I did at GZA in March 2012. You can refer to that events AAR if you want a quick reference. I will post specific game play themes and rules in the forthcoming days. But for now, I can say that we will be operating on a timely schedule (that will be posted shortly) with one scheduled break for lunch.
6) Food and water: All players should bring with them their own rations and water. We will be providing a "Chow line" meal to both sides during the lunch break. Either a Stew or Soup will be served. We will have a couple of gallons of water for emergency purposes. But I strongly recommend everyone to bring adequate rations and water for their stay.
7) Game Days: This is a two day event with a Friday night "warm up" game if enough players show. Anyone who plans on arriving early on Friday should say so in their registration. The main game will be on Saturday. Sunday will also offer a full day of play if there are enough players remaining to do so.
I thank you all for your attention and support. I can only stress that those who wish to attend, get their registrations and pre-pays in asap as this is critical to this event happening. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via PM on these boards or email to the listed email above.
Thanks again and Happy New Year,
Migs

I've given some thought to ways to bring my mass of gear to bear for this event. I don't think that loaning out my weapons for a game I can't be at is a great idea (especially during winter), but am trying to figure out the possibility of maybe getting at least uniforms and gear into play.
First step: For those coming from the south (i.e. Graham and Drac): 1) When are you heading up? 2) What route or routes are you considering? 3) Do you have any spare room in your vehicle and if so, how much?
There would be a lot of logistics and other issues to figure out and not sure it will be possible to orchestrate on this end given my schedule for that weekend, but it doesn't cost anything to look into it.

Votes not in yet on my mode of travel. Navy might be keeping my wife tethered to the area that weekend. Still have to work out the details with the Bel Air guys.
While I don't mean to sound like I'm dumping the load on someone else, but logistically speaking, if Graham and his dad drives up with their van, they definitely got the space to haul some stuff. I would offer, but with the three cars of my team, we all got sedans....

I hear you on that. But now that you brought up the idea, just occurred to me that I should have 2 or 3 German loaner kits "finished" up by then. That I'd be more than willing to bring up and loan out. I'll be able to take a good inventory come Friday afternoon after I get a case of German goodies in from a buddy of mine. I think the only I'd need for these kits are head wear.
Unfortunately though, I can't say much for German guns. I have a half decent springer Kar98 that .25's and heavier roll out of the barrel if pointed anywhere near the ground, I'm getting the G&G Kar98 in, and I might be able to pull off another Kar98 of some sort. Whether RedFire or springer, no idea yet.

I was wondering if there is a count on numbers attending yet? I have been invited to go on a ski trip for that weekend and having an idea on how many are going to the game will help me decide either way.

When I spoke with Nate last week, we had numbers around 25 for all those who he spoke with or said they were coming on the boards.
As far as I'm concerned, I need everyone who plans on attending to step up, register and pre-pay as well. I know most have said "they're coming" but I need this assurance if I'm gonna take this thing on.
Hopefully I'll get some registrations and pre-pays this week. Let's get it going guys. the event is less than 3 weeks away.
Happy New Year,
Migs

Alright, there is a chance that both me and the wife might make it. She has to check whether or not she gets for MLK weekend, and if she does, how much time.
If I can go. I can supply two decent looking German loaner kits, really pushing "decent looking" with the second kit. But If I can get another set of trousers, EM belt, leggings, and canteen in time, I can split my personal impression into two. One can get the great coat and stahlhelm, and another can work with the blouse and M43 cap, or whatever. This isn't perfect by any means, but I'll do my best to see what I scrap up in time.

It seems like at least the wife and I will be going! We will do a proper registration later tonight.
Is any one interested in sharing a hotel room? To cut down on costs? Unfortunately we would get their pretty late, but if the hotel is for friday night and saturday night, that would be perfect!
Another note. First day, we will be Allies. Black Watch and Corpsman. Second day, we are going to switch sides to Germans. WH rifleman and LW Flakhelferin.
Weapon wise. I'm really hoping to have my G&G Kar98 to come in from Canada in time, and have another springer Kar98 finished. Other than that we will bring all the American weapons we have. Garand, BAR, Thompson, M1 Carbine.
We might get more people with us as it gets closer!

Remember to register them asap so we can get an accurate count on the numbers. We need to have a decent amount committed if this event will happen. Thanks, Migs

How many people are we expecting? How many prepaid people are there? Like I mentioned in a previous post, based on numbers Nate and I went through, we're hoping for 20-25 players. Right now we are a little light. There are only a few players who prepaid and 7 players registered. I'm hopeful this will pick up over the next few days. Like I originally mentioned, your prepays are fully refundable if the event is postponed. There is zero risk. If you plan on attending, hurry up and register. If you know someone who is thinking about it, lean on them and get them to come and register for them. My party is 4 strong and I'm hoping for one or two more. So you are all not alone in this thing. I will also be posting game play rules over the next few days. Based on the field and the expected numbers, I think what I've come up with will help this event flow and be very enjoyable for all. Hope to hear from you all real soon, Migs

Alright guys, the wife and I are registered and good to go!
Its supposed to be 30 degrees that day. And I've been taking walks to the post office in other kilts (about a 1.5 miles one way), and today was 15 degrees. I'll be perfectly fine in a kilt that day, haha.

I've been knocked out with stomach virus last couple of days, so I'm playing catch up here. I'll try and get some game times and rules up real soon.

Event Rules
What determines a "Hit"? A hit on a player is when any part of the body is hit by a fired BB. This includes any ricochet that may hit you. What do you do when your hit: A dramatic fall to the ground while calling out "Hit" always works best. Once you've finished your "you got me scene" what comes next depends on your wound status. (See medic rules) What about grenade kills? There are two kinds of grenade kills because there are usually two kinds of grenades brought to the events. Non-exploding "dummy" grenades and Exploding grenades. Any "dummy" grenade landing within a unimpeded 10' radius, all within that radius is now DEAD. No wounded, just dead. (See medic rules) For Exploding grenades, same rule as "dummy" grenade except, if you are hit with the exploding contents of the grenade, regardless of where you are, you are DEAD. If you are in a trench, same rules apply except instead of a radius, the kill zone will be 10 feet in each linear direction from where the grenade land. If you are in a building or bunker and the grenade enters, your dead! **Any building that does not have a roof, grenades are only allowed in through windows and entrance ways. Smoke grenades: are just that. You can not die from a smoke grenade. Bazooka, Panzerfaust and Mortar hits: The same radius and trench rules apply as the grenades rules. In regards to buildings/bunkers, two direct hits to the building destroys and kills everyone inside. Hits to sand bags above trenches do not constitute a hit. Safety Kills: All engagements within a 50 foot range, a safety kill shall be declared. First combatant to call out safety kill lives. Any disagreements, both combatants are dead. We all know it is sometimes hard to estimate distances in the heat of battle, please use your best discretion as safety should prevail. Safety kills are mandatory in close quarters (buildings, bunkers and trenches) Knife kills: Although rare, since this event does have night fighting and thus could have some sneak attacks, there could possibly be some knife kills. Only FAKE knife kills will be allowed. You must make contact with your target for the kill. For those of you who bring real knives and/or bayonets, please keep them holstered. Aid StationsEach team will be given two medical flags to serve as a mobile or HQ re-spawn point. The mobile aide station location should be determined by CO's and be at least 50 yards from the front lines. The HQ aide stations shall also be 50 yards to the rear of each sides primary HQ location. These aid stations can be captured by the opposing team for points. (Point system T.B.D. later) Aid stations that are captured by the opposing team must take the flag to their base to be awarded the points for the capture. After one hour the flag will be returned under a parlay to its original owner and may again return to it's original status. It is obviously important to secure your mobile aide station, if captured, your teams re-spawn point will be 50 yards to the rear of your HQ for the duration of it's capture. Medic RulesWhen a player is hit, they are to fall down (acting is encouraged!) and call for a medic and or buddy aide. Any teammate can medic their fallen comrade by holding onto them for five minutes. Contact must be kept for the entire five minutes and once time has elapsed the player is back in the fight. If no medic or buddy comes to your aide, after 5 minutes, you are considered "bled out" and you can leave for either the mobile aide or Battalion Aide Station (B.A.S.) where you must remain there for an additional 5 minutes. After a player has been hit a 2nd time, the player must lay dead in place for 5 minutes before falling back to an aid station or to their main base. Once at the aid station the player must wait five more minutes before returning to combat. When leaving the field as a "dead man walking" no talking to teammates about enemy positions will be allowed. Dead men will grip their weapon by the business end and sling their weapon over their shoulder while holding up their free hand. No dead man shall be fire upon! Ammo RestrictionsAt the beginning of the Operation, both teams must bring all of their ammo and supplies out with them for the day. They are to leave these supplies at their primary positions for the duration of the battle. Soldiers can only go into battle with their loaded magazines or clips and cannot bring speed loaders or BB bags with them. Team leaders must work with their Squad leaders in order to coordinate rearming and refitting during their assaults/defenses. Only players with 8mm weapons that require "hand feeding" of their ammo may carry loose ammo with them. Support weapons (1919s, mg34s,42s) may be reloaded with the use of ammo cans or with bandoleers of deactivated ammunition/blanks. Each belt or ammo can equals one bag of bbs which can be carried on the attack and these items must be supplied by the soldier. When the 101st went into Bastogne, they had a limited supply of Ammo. This will hold true for this event. 101st Airborne troops will only be allowed to start with a limited supply of Ammo. (this will be determined during the briefing) One of the objectives is for U.S. forces to re-supply the 101st. Game play will revolve around the theme of the US 101stAB surrounded by German forces in the forest outside the town of Foy. The 101st will need to be re-supplied in order to properly defend itself. This scenario will encompass the first part of our event. The second part after our lunch break will be the 101stAB attacking the town of Foy. These two scenarios are designed to encompass the entire day with constant fighting with only one scheduled break for lunch. All players should bring with them adequate field rations and water for their own needs in the field. A supply of emergency water and some small food rations will be available at the Event base located in the parking lot. Commanding Officers: Each side will have a CO that will be briefed on specific game play. They will intern use the chain of command to inform the rest of the players. Game Times: Friday: So far no one has stated that they plan on attending a optional Friday night game. I'll announce an answer as the event gets closer. Saturday: Everyone should arrive no later than 08:30hrs. Once you arrive, please report to the registration area (where Migs and Nate are) and check in. 09:30hrs: Mission briefing. We will be going over game rules and mission scenarios. 10:00hrs: Event coordinators briefing with CO's 10:30hrs: Troops move out to their respective camps. 11:00hrs: game play starts. 13:00hrs: Lunch break 14:00hrs: Attack on Foy begins. 16:00hrs: Game over, or until dark. Sunday: This will be discussed on Saturday. A lot depends on the amount of players remaining for Sunday. Cheers, Migs

Quick question on the ammo restrictions. What if the player has a fancy Kar98, like a G&G or Red Fire, that relies on top loading it from a speed loader? These mags are usually super expensive, and a full charge of gas can fire at least 30 shots, but the mags only have 8 or 9 rounds in them.

These mags are usually super expensive, and a full charge of gas can fire at least 30 shots, but the mags only have 8 or 9 rounds in them. Exceptions will be made, in moderation. Speed loaders can be considered one hi-cap mag. The one thing I'm trying to avoid is players carrying bags of loose BB's. Basically it's what you can carry. I'll go over this in more detail at the mission briefings. Migs
