During Shot Show this year, G&G unveiled their new MG42. Pictures here, latest post (at time of this post): www.facebook.com/airsoftmegastoreAnd apparently shiny barreled 1903 and Garand.....huh? While I have no doubt that this will be extremely nice, I think it fair to say that we really don't need it. We still need good, solid Mosin-Nagants and Enfields. Nothing else has really been said yet, or I haven't found anymore info on it, but I'm sure there is more to come....eventually....

What we really need is a G43.
Thanks for the info.

I think SMLE would be better but thats my opinion

If we're talking Allied bolt actions, much better a Mosin-Nagant than an SMLE. If the rifle encourages the impression (which it often does), I'd rather unlock the endless possibilities of the vastly under-represented Eastern front than create yet another riff on D-Day or Market Garden.

Very true! I also should have added the Arisaka to that little list there.

As much as I hate to say it, unless a company feels like doing something weird(Like whoever made the m38, while not rare in WW2 it was er unexpected same with the zb26/30) and makes either one of the lmgs, the smg or maybe a rifle. These are far off thogh, but yeah, it should be imo
Kar98, mosin, smle, 1903, arisaka type rifles, etc rifles like carconos

I think of it as, if we get more western front type weapons, like an SMLE or a No4. Bren, we can bring in many more and still be correct for the same front.

The list of offerings has expanded 10 fold in the last few years and compared to the years of burlap wrapped M4s, SOCOM M14s and AK 47s I am thrilled but of course an effective springer Kar 98 and an AEG G43 would be awesome.
The German MG is iconic and thus far an affordable and RELIABLE offering hasn't been available so hopefully this one will fill that void. The way GnG progresses from SHOT SHOW to product means well see this in 2017 or 2018! (if at all). Unless their Garand sells well we probably wont see it at all. Their Springfield has been a disapppintment for them I think.

I think of it as, if we get more western front type weapons, like an SMLE or a No4. Bren, we can bring in many more and still be correct for the same front. I hear ya, but I think this also speaks to one of the things about our hobby that bears discussion, and probably correction-- that is that we tend to have a lot of different impressions in the field. A lot of players-- myself included-- have a wide variety of different kits, but it seems like we have quite a few fairly obscure impressions that are fielded, usually as a single trooper. I think people in our game should be trying to be LESS unique in their impressions, not more... they do call them "uniforms" for a reason, and I think there are times when our forces lack cohesiveness they easily could have because we players are trying to exert our individuality or show off some obscure uniform. I do think we should be encouraging anybody and everybody with an interest in this hobby to come with whatever impression they might have, but I sometimes wonder if the rainbow of impressions we are known to field doesn't turn off some BF guys who may be on the fence about playing. With some of the very esoteric and varied looks, it's almost like it's "Night at the Military Museum," where all the individual exhibits come alive and fight together, but with no real uniformity. I would say we should be striving for AT MOST two different overall looks per side: Allies should be infantry and airborne, OR Red Devils and US Airborne, etc. etc. Likewise on the Axis side we should be trying to field a combination made up of not more than two if Heer, SS, FJ, or Luftwaffe Field troops. To this end, our unit HGNO is trying to encourage our players to acquire enough supplementary gear to do at least two different impressions, so that we can create cohesiveness within a scenario. Again, only bringing it up for discussion, this is not a crisis and I'm not condemning anyone or preaching, I've been the lone guy with an obscure impression myself. And I don't think it pays to be sticklers about this-- we should definitely accept all comers at the field (No "Uh, sorry, you can't play today, we aren't accepting Heer troops for this game."). That said, I think we should be trying to encourage (and by that I mean encourage, not demand) more uniformity and less "flair" when it comes to building impressions, at least if we want to be taken more seriously.

Wonderfully said, Mark. Indeed, if you can't decide on insignia or if you are just joining the hobby, don't put any insignia at all on your uniform! At least with the American army, insignia were frequently removed, so if you have an M41 without unit and rank patches, you have a uniform that works for infantry-only and airborne-only (glider units had infantry uniforms). Being generic is the key. We all love unique impressions that can be proved with ONE original photo, but for beginners, for American troops (I don't know enough about German to make a suggestion), a generic M41 with a Garand is probably your best bet. If you're going to do a paratrooper impression, make it good.

Thats kind of always been my thing when it comes to my impressions. I always just wanted to be the standard infantry rifleman. Maybe a team leader or marksman, something that would reflect my real life rank of Corporal in the Marines. Though, rank insignia has been on the back burner and probably will be for a while....

Thanks for the kind words, Shifty. On the German side it's actually even easier. If a guy puts together a basic, vanilla combat impression it's VERY easy to switch branches with a few extra items. Let's say you start with Heer: boots, wool trousers, tunic, belt and buckle, weapon and ammo pouches, y-straps, bread bag, canteen, mess kit, and helmet make up your basic impression in our unit. Buy an SS buckle and a tunic with SS insignia and voila, you are correct for SS, you now have two interchangeable impressions (yeah, you can get an SS smock too, but not necessary to get out in the field). Get a few Luftwaffe-specific pieces of kit (i.e. a LW belt buckle and a blue breadbag or Gamaschen, or splurge on a Fliegerbluse and combat smock) and you're entirely passable-- and identifiable-- as a Luftwaffe field division soldier. FJ is a little more branch-specific, but has enough crossover with LW field troops to be a realistic cross-impression. Still, many things-- weapons and pouches, canteens, bayonets, shovels, etc.-- can cross over in just about ANY late war German impression.
Bottom line, as you say a good meat and potatoes generic impression is where people should start. Then going from there my advice would be to build off that impression to be more flexible, rather than going for something over the top and unique.

I have always been most drawn to the iconic, everyday soldier look. For US an M41 over a mustard shirt, wool pants bloused into khaki leggings a steel pot with netting and typical web set up is where I'd love to see US guys start. For German the grey wool set up with a kraut helmet, and either jack boots or gaiters just looks war movie cool to me. Having said that every event Ive been to has had a widely varied mix and Im cool with that too.
jump to Destiny had Airborne, Leg Infantry and about a dozen Brit paras. The germans fielded mostly FJ but a contingent of SS and a decent sized unit of HEER. Each had their own seperate camp at no time did we ever get them all together at one time. (The BF guys didn't want to). That was a pitty as it would have been a pretty impressive group shot for an airsoft event.

If we ever have a dozen each of different impressions, I'd be more than happy with three distinct units. But for the games we're having in the NE-- from five to fifteen per side-- I think two should be our goal. It's nice to be able to have a squad of X and a squad of Y.

MG team would be cool with addition of a MG42.A realistic German squad with MG and tactics would be amazing in events. So an affordable MG42 would help.

An affordable (and reliable) MG 42. It seems the recent ACM (matrix) offering has been at least somewhat problematic although the frozen temperatures probably contributed to that. As I recall all the MGs went down almost immediately.
I have homebuilt 30 Cals and other Light machine guns based on M14s and AK gearboxes which consistently work with some jury rigged feed systems so this is a real puzzlement to me?

Unfortunately, unless G&G's MG42 is going to be a part of their Combat Machine line (their "sportline" style line, usually pretty good stuff comes from it, despite the price), its either going to cost as much as the current MG42, or even more than that.

Current MG as in matrix? It should be at least as much as that...MGs shouldn't be too cheap, or else everyone will have one, when it should be 1 per squad.

Technically "AGM" is the maker. Matrix is the distributor name Evike likes to slap on everything to try to promote themselves, A&K distributes the same one to other sites.
Outside of that that, I wouldn't agree with it being much cheaper than the AGM one. LSSAH's/Squad make up reason and if it is significantly less, the quality is going to poor in some area. Either crappy externals or crappy internals, and if the internals take the hit, usage life is going to much shorter than other guns because of the intended use.
However, I am interested in how G&G is making their MG42. I found it odd that the AGM one used a Ver2 gearbox, while most other airsoft machine guns, even the BAR, use a proprietary, rectangular gearbox. Usually with an elongated cylinder to use with the longer barrels of medium and heavy machine guns. The longer cylinders allow you to use longer inner barrels with out having that decrease in performance do the air expansion in the barrel, and of course, higher FPS.
If G&G uses a proprietary gearbox, with an elongated cylinder, this could be a pretty accurate machine gun.

youtu.be/lOeTlMn7oNESo yea... This has been in the works for awhile now. This vid was posted on YouTube in March of 2014. I LOVE what it looks like it's going to be though! All steel, simple to breakdown, and the charging handle actuates the hopup chamber, allowing the quick change barrel feature to work! Ahhhh!!!!! I'm definitely saving for this! Good thing I have 5+ years before it actually gets released, plenty of time to save!

Oh man, that gearbox is exactly what I'm talking about. Not sure of an elongated cylinder, but at least there isn't a Ver2 gearbox in there. Neat features as well. The paint job looks more realistic, too.

That's surely a very impressive gearbox, if that's the intended concept gearbox and what it ships out with. Other than that this is a very lovely and sophisticated HMG for the airsoft world.

Yeah, but that same page, in the same post shows G&G's Kar98 to be shell ejecting.... Their release model was gas/magazine fed.

Well G&G seems to be spreading the shell ejecting thing on their own, they may release one or something, seems pointless to me but w/e From their Facebook i.imgur.com/pN2PiNY.jpgI do wonder more about the CWI picture, a CO2 gbb would be something

I have a feeling that the CO2 version will be awesome, but one would need to start saving now if they want to afford it when it comes out. All these MG42s are great, but what are needed now are Kar98s and other bolt actions (a ~$600 Browning .30 cal would be nice too.)

It is pretty surprising that other than the shortlived and limited production VIVA M1919 a US 30 Cal isn't available.
