SO... I've recently decided to do an Axis impression rather than an Allied US one. One thing I REALLY love are tanks! SO. although I don't have one (I might make one later on, like... a scaled down wooden one, but...) ANYWAY. How many other Panzer impressions are there on this forum? specifically, how many people wear them to airsoft WITHOUT a tank? As mentioned in a previous thread, I WOULD be commanding a small howitzer gun crew. I personally LOVE the Panzer uniforms. SO. I wanted to know if what I've got in my CART would be acceptable. Uniform: www.ebay.com/itm/400794696538Boots: www.ebay.com/itm/110620248397Belt: www.ebay.com/itm/360973311553Cap: www.ebay.com/itm/360876485974 (would the garrison cap be more correct?) Obviously the insignia will come later. (I have a limited budget) AS WILL A PISTOL AND HOLSTER. Probably a Luger. OH. And it gets REALLY hot in Hollister where the field I play at is. SO. I was wondering how often THESE www.ebay.com/itm/360604590459 uniforms were worn, and if I just wear that with the same hat, or if I'd need a different hat to go with it. like THIS und THIS und THESES GUYS und THIS guy und THIS! oh wait... never mind... Funny. Any google search with the word PANZER in it... Miho is a Kommandant too! OFF TOPIC... Anyway. I'd appreciate some input! Thanks -Alden

Lssah1944 will be here shortly to help you out lol! I'd say go for it. It's an impression I've never seen before. Even by late 44' to early 45' German tanks were either breaking down from lack of replacement parts or just plain out of fuel. Most often these displaced crew members would take up arms as infantry. They would simply take up what kit they can muster and fall in with the infantry nearby. You could always grab a breadbag, and a canteen to go on you belt along with your luger holster. You could also get a magazine pouch for your side opposite the holster for whatever weapon you choose (k98, mp40, stg44). I'd personally go with a k98. That would be the most common weapon for someone in that situation to pick up, plus this hobby always needs riflemen! Headgear, you could most likely stick with the sidecap or the field cap, either would be correct, but I like the sidecap. A helmet wouldn't really be top priority when looking for equipment near your broken down tank

Roger that. and I'll get the super epic headphones and throat mic later on! XD I've discovered that communications are VERY handy in airsoft, and it'd be great to have correct equipment.

Honestly, don't do panzer impression, especially with all the panzer gear on. It is EXTREEEEMELY rare to see panzer crews fighting with infantry. And when you do, they have infantry gear on. The headset was not taken from the vehuicle, you wouldn't have that, and all black stuff would be removed or covered.

I would agree with Graham regarding the rarity of seeing tank crews in black uniforms fielded as infantry. As far as the gun crews, unless your howitzer is mounted on a tank chassis, you're looking at artillery troops: Feldgrau with red piping instead of infantry white. My advice would be: Get a bread and butter Heer impression, then build this one as a supplementary kit (if nothing else because it is so cool). Then, of course, the next step is to design and field a reasonable airsoft Panzer! At that point, the comments on your Panzer blacks go from "why is this dude wearing that?" to "I want to be him."

Well I've already decided to DO the impression. I was just asking if what I had was correct for one. It's just that EVENTUALLY I want to BUILD a Panzer, and I only wanna have to buy a German impression ONCE. (It's insanely expensive compared to what I'm used to spending!)
I've contacted the field about five times now, asking what I'd need to do in order to be able to use a tank (what I'd have to do to the design, if there are rules for taking them out, etc...) but haven't heard back at all. I might try calling them if I don't get a response.
If They say I can't use an armored vehicle of any kind, I'll figure something out in order to make my impression make more sense. (Maybe an OPEN design with little to no 'armor' or maybe something with very thin skin so that BBs could penetrait it.)

Hmmmmmm, someone is doing a little dreaming here. Which is fine of course as fantasy is kind a what we do! Like you I have always liked the Panzer uniforms. Contrary to the comment by LZZAH, an on foot panzer crewman definitely might have found himself in the role of foot soldier wearing what he had supplemented by scrounged equipment. RARE? you betcha! Hence really not as desireable for our hobby as a grunt Infantry uniform but if its your thing go for it!
Even without armor we have done scenarios with missions to destroy a disabled tank defended by the remaining crew and obviously such an impression would be fabulous. Incidently tank and assault gun crews were issued helmets and most likely would have donned them.

Honestly, if youre so set on it, go for it. but, you have been warned- its a great waste of money, especially if you actually plan on doing ww2 airsoft events.

Also, any open design would wear stug wraps, not panzer wraps. And howitzers use standard heer feldblusen and such. Unless you have a tank, don't go with panzer crew.

well I've NEVER been to a WWII event, and don't think I will at any point in the near future. I'm only 16, and my family is WAY too busy to drive me all the way across the country to somewhere where there is one happening. so I DON'T think that'd be a problem.

Be sure to share a picture of yourself in your kitchen or living room for all of to enjoy!

Yes, alden, PLEASE take suggestions and advice in the spirit in which they're intended-- if Panzer is what you like, do Panzer, especially if it's really only to satisfy the desire to have a particular outfit and you're not actually participating in WWII games.
I think the reason several of us have suggested a basic line infantry kit is that we understood that you were planning on fielding your impression in WWII events, and we only want newer players who are just putting together their gear to get the most out of this hobby. In terms of actual WWII games, you will get optimum value and mileage out of plain old infantry, whatever side you're on. A specialized impression like Panzer would soon make you feel like the odd man out if you're among a group of other WWII airsofters who have a more uniform look.
If you're putting this together (as it seems) to stand out a bit at a normal modern airsoft field, you can hardly have chosen better. The uniform is both iconic and extremely sharp, one of the most handsome field uniforms any side used in WWII. Good luck assembling it, and keep us all posted!

Everyone where I play is obsessed with their oper8or multiglam cammo and 'swag' MOLLE vests.
EDIT: and like I said. I'll figure SOMETHING out to make it less out of place.

Look into Hikishop. They seem to have less expensive items for sale, and it seems to be good quality stuff too.
Like you I'd love to build a tank, M3 or M5 stuart, M8 Greyhound, M3 scout car, anything really to drive around! But most of us are in the same boat. Lots of moderately expensive impression parts, and fewer money to be spending on the hobby. If you really want to build a credible tank, and you're having trouble buying the uniform, you're going to have a difficult time with the tank building process! Don't let that stop you though! Don't rush yourself to buy the impression right away. Take the time to piece it together, while looking for good quality gear that will last you. It's better to buy good quality gear for a bit more than to get the cheapo stuff right away and need to replace it in a few months.

Scroll down haha. there are little bubbles with sizes in bubbles, I believe you buy it's either a size or 2 up, if it's to big, throw it in the machine dryer and it'll shrink it.

Too many pseudo-SEALS and wannabe-contractors out there already. Even if you don't get to wear your impression in a game, it's kind of neat to have it "Harrrummmphhhh! Back in MY day when someone said 'The War' you didn't have to ask, 'Which one?'" -(That's my crotchety Old Fart impression)

I sear I'll do SOMETHING that I can USE at a field to 'command.'
If it has to be a Pak-44-looking chassis with a rotating gun.
I'll do it.

For Vietnam, I have an Aviator and a PBR Gunnersmate impression. I don't have a plane, I don't have a helicopter, and I don't have a boat. They're not impressions I can effectively field, so I don't bother. I just do them because they're fun, and I like to have them in my collection. Of course, I did those only after I had achieved a somewhat combat worthy kit. Panzer crewman looks awesome, and would be an awesome impression - down the line. I agree with the others in that, if you're looking for something WWII to actually skirmish in, and to attend WWII games and events with, an infantry focused kit would be more appropriate. Even if you do build a tank or artillery piece, not every event will allow it. If you're just looking to do something cool, with plans to only use it when tanks or artillery are called for, by all means.
If it's so dayum hot where you're at, and you want to be different, what about the Afrika Korps? From what I remember about my trip to SoCal, it would be great terrain for DAK, and from my rather limited research on the "other side", not many do it. But, then again, that's because no one else does the the North Africa theatre - Axis or Allies. But as I said before, you've got a perfectly fine Vietnam impression for when it gets too hot to wear wool. A standard German foot soldier should be plenty unique.
Finally, Girls und Panzer is awesome. My friends made me watch it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well it doesn't really GET HOT where I play. it's simply hot all year round. the same temp every day unless it's raining. (which I've only seen ONCE, and it cleared up within half an hour) I'll probably do another impression down the road PS: Ooarai über alles! XD Pak-44 chassis? ? Maybe the term I'm looking for is 'carriage' a bit more 'vehicle' looking than a regular carriage. I say 'chassis' because it kinda looks like one. GUYS. Right now I'm making the panzer impression. I simply made this thread to see if what I HAD for it was accurate. Not to have a debate about why I should or shouldn't do it. I said I'd figure out SOME WAY to have it make more sense.

The field pieces of the German Military would not have been manned by Armored Corp troops. You have your own mindset about what you want to do and thats fine. The bulk of the folks on this site are interested in striving to avoid historical infidelities and clearly you have little or no concerns about that. This is fine...its your impression your money and your vision.
Seeking our input and then rejecting it as not being applicable in your case seems to be a post from someone really not genuinely interested in others thoughts. Cool impression, have fun with it but at this stage of OUR hobby not really a very congruent impression.
Incidently the 12.8 CM gun carriage shown is a MASSIVE field piece.

that is a very reasonable and responsible plan. i am sorry if I came across as harsh its just real tiresone hearing about what people dream about doing and from people who don't seem to catch that the purpose of this website is WW2 airsoft. Combining action pursuit events with living history. There are members here and events that have had actual and replica armored vehicles at events and by all means when you have started in on an actual project (assuming you get past the inevitable realization that your ambitions are herrculean) please post your progress and end results. dramatically reduced scale like 1/2 scale or smaller would not be well received or acceptable at any viable WW2 airsoft event.
Even the relatively small T38 (cool tank) at 5/8th scale would more than fill a garage and unless made with cardboard or papermache will be several thousand dollars and too heavy to move or transport or so hokey as to be comical! Who knows maybe you have resources or support we are unaware of.

I have to agree with 2ndBat. Nothing against you personally, but there are quite a few guys that pop up on here that say "Hey! I'm gonna build X,Y & Z" and then realize how expensive their plan is and just give up all together and dissappear from the forum. I am just a guilty as you! I started off on here wanting to build M3 37mm AT guns, howitzers, armored cars, and currently, I'm barely able to make an M2 60mm mortar! Nothing wrong with having dreams, but realizing how big they are and the effort and money required is another thing completely. I really don't want to see you stop posting alltogether! That defeats the purpose of the forum! But if you are going for a tanker impression, one approach you can take is go with a German Waffen SS infantryman wearing Dot44 tunic and pants. You can easily swap out the infantry tunic for a panzer wrap and look correct for a tanker. www.hessenantique.com/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=2121401

I think we also need to remember the OP is only 16, and at that age plans and dreams don't always have a grounding in achievability. I know they didn't for me back in the day.
But truthfully, someone with moderate means could create a vehicle that could plausibly be commanded by a Panzer man. The cheapest approach would be to get a roached but running small pickup truck or van, then remove and add parts to make it up as a scout car. The Sd. Kfz. 222 would be small enough to be practical and still plausible late in the war. Even a small car or modern jeep could produce a captured Daimler Dingo.
But even these relatively "easy" projects would require a donor vehicle, automotive mechanical skills, welding and/or wood construction skills and tools, plus time, time, and more time. Not cheap, not quick, and not doable by someone who doesn't know what he's doing. And since the finished vehicle would almost certainly not be street legal, add on a trailer (and make sure your real ride is capable of towing it).

Maybe this forum has helped me to see just how much of an ignorant silly pony I really am. I'm always setting impossible goals for myself and pissing off people who I should be taking the advice of. I'm REALLY ashamed of my generation and I HATE other teens like me, but the truth is, I'm just like them. I think that becasue I may know a bit more about history than them that I'm some sort of special snowflake, but the truth is, I'm WORSE than all the other Guy on a short bused silly ponys I go to school with. Ban me if you thin it'll help to teach me a lesson, but to be honest, I don't OFTEN learn from my mistakes.
