I have been thinking this for a bit. What way to grow WW2 airsofting than to create more units for players to get a footing or guide in.I am wanting to start a Heer unit that is very accurate and local based to expand Mid-West operations. We can follow squad tactics, signaling, ect.Would this be a feasible project to do?

The hobby doesn't need more units and it doesn't need less units. It needs people to be dedicated and committed. A lot of areas in the Country don't have a large recruitment base and so you'll see guys doing an impression and they are essentially alone with no unit or they will have maybe one or two friends. You say you want to expand mid-west operations. There is a Heer unit in the Midwest. It is the 3rd Panzergrenadiers. Our members hail from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. We've been around since 2007 and have private playing fields, armor, mg's, mines, anti-tank weaponry, a history of mulitple yearly events, etc. You don't say where you are from. That would be an important consideration to list if you're trying to drum up interest in your new unit. Right now I'm going to answer you and say your project isn't feasible. What you need is a playing venue, an opposing team of players that you regularly can compete against and enough energy to post more than two lines about your current brainstorming idea.

Honestly luftwelle, your ideas a re great, but youre vastly overestimating this hobby's current state. Its small. here NE, were lucky to have 6 dedicated germans at am event- even that's a stretch.

I totally understand.I haven't realized 100% the true state of our hobby.I wonder if its what happened to Operation East Wind events.I was hoping in the future to join them because of their realistic combat but found out that this month was their last because of changing tide of airsofting. It is unfortunate that we don't have too many in our field as it is a fairly easy and cheaper in some extent to blank-fire reenacting. All I can say is that we need plenty more people.

From my blank fire reenacting soucres, it seems that even that may be at a decline as well. Lssah, I believe you blank fire right? What do you think about it? Is it decreasing or no? Or any blank fire members here

From my experience, it has been mostly the blankfire tacticals that have been decreasing in number. The public events have been doing fine. Though I'm not old enough, I suppose, to really compare it too far into the past. What I have seen, however, is that blankfire has attracted a significant amount of young players. The last blankfire event I went to had about half of the 60 players between 20-30 years old. I do think it is because of the high standards that make it immersive that attracts new players.

Not really. Theyre moving far away from the crappy FIG type tacticals to much smaller, hardcore events.

Yeah. They are moving to more private and hardcore events. Like they get super immersed-they sleep in muddy fox holes as opposed to barracks-just an example. Guess that's a good thing actually

When I was a little kid my dad was stationed at Ft. indiantown Gap! The large Bulge event there has become a huge annual event. The tactical aspects are poorly set up by folks who apparently have no clue about how to conduct them and the challenge is too few of the participants have the marshal skills required to do them well even if they were set up well.
The best part of the event sadly has become the marketplace bazarre which is frankly the best reason to go. The vehicles are cool as well.

I think back in the day ROTC summer camp was held at Ft. Indiantown Gap. Seems I remember some people mentioning that. Being at a West Coast school I did mine at Ft. Lewis (aka Fort Screwloose).

i too did ROTC Advance camp at Ft Lewis. Having grown up there. (i spent my Jr High School years there). The bluff with the land nav course was my play ground. needless to say it was a snap. A cross country runner from BYU beat me but I came in second!

Its a shame that the hobby hasn't developed into something big.An event with at least 50-100 would be great and set the scale for tactical battles.I want to at least start a small group in Ohio and promote from there. Its all about numbers and expanding.

I also would like to get people from the mid New York area and start something up. Again airsoft is not that popular as it is. And ww2 airsoft is even more unpopular in the airsoft world. Again this is something that I've been thinking about, and might take even years to do, so again something I WOULD like to start up. Not something that will start up overnight. Things like making up ww2 airsoft groups take time, commitment, the right place, and also the willingness to go that far.

things that start small can grow and everything has to start sonewhere. Locally WW2 events began with way less than a dozen guys with horrible impressions and over time grew to. WW2 event with well over 100 players in fabulous impressions. It took great effort and lots of patience and effort but it can ge done, the biggest challenge is securring a suitable and reliable venue to play at.
With the Internet and web sites like this one lije minded folks who would never find one another now can. Good luck and keep plugging away at your local efforts.

Perhaps there might be a chance to form a small unit and join up with the WWII airsoft events in Michigan.Promote from there and expand.

Cooperation and honesty will help the hobby, we have plenty of people in the tri state area we just need to unify. And the Rangers are front and center, see you on the battlefield!

Clearly there are several members on this Forum who are in the greater tri state area and either already doing German, in the process of putting together their impressions or sincerely interested in doing so. Instead of considering the initial start up of a local unit why not "join up" with the other folks here already doing so and expand this effort through each of your local areas. Recruiting to the swan song of a single guy is much harder than gaining members to a group that appears to already exist.
Arrange a get together at a common site with your existing gear, practice some tactics and take lots of pictures so you have something to show. Figure out what you collectively have by way of kit and see if you don't already have some available loaner kit to provide new recruits.
Find an event to attend even if its several states away and you dont have all your stuff yet. go to it! Grandiose plans are meaningless when no one takes baby steps first. My father always used to say "done" is always more satisfying and meaningful than "planned perfectly"

Hello all, if you are in the greater Metro Detroit area our airsoft group is looking for dedicated German players! Our main guy has an mg42, mp40, gas Kar, various pistols and an mp40 but the Allies far out number the Axis, as seems to be the usual case. Anyways I have been working with the owners of the field at Phoenix Tactical in Clinton Township to make it more WWII friendly, clearing paths, building bunkers, a mortar pit, MG nest and my current project is a German guard shack. We have field phones for both sides and the Allies have two Handie Talkies. If any German units want to come play we would be ecstatic to see you on the field!!! Next game is Sunday November 15th at 1pm. Our Facebook page, Axis & Allied WWII Airsoft Michigan www.facebook.com/groups/1573586372907018/

Hello, I am a bit of a "slut" for a lack of a better word when it comes to airsoft. I have a WW2 kit for US Army,German and Russian. I also have a Ba-64 Russian armored car and have traveled to IN,IL,MN and all over WI with it. Here in WI we have private fields to play on and play for donations. One nice thing about my private land is, we can build, dig and period camp or use my "Barracks Barn". OK, maybe there are more than just one nice thing about it! We have a lot of strong pockets of airsofters in the extended mid-west area. I thing we need to plan a 2 day field event to make traveling worth the effort and combine our forces to get larger numbers. For those that want to live in the field as a infantryman "Ostwind" this spring 2016 might be what your looking for. 48 hours away from your car with just your period packed ruck and weapon. "Ostwind" will be a field craft, long range patrol event with no "lone wolf" activities. When dates work out, I have no problem carpooling a squad with my armored car to a Eastern,Southern or Western event...I just like to see the same effort in return. MI, do you have armored car friendly fields?
