Prior to my experiences with the cheap CYMA carbines I never would have troubled this forum with such a question but has anyone had first hand experience with these assorted brands of inexpensive Springer M 14s? i hear some are actually quite respectable. It would seem that IF they shoot hard enough and accurately enough they might serve as base componentry from conversions. if the conversions were simple enough to execute it might be something to consider?
What models have you had experience with? What did it cost? And what was the FPS ( with.20 gram). Does yours have hop up? (some apparently do while others don't) it appears that there is a lot of variation in quality and performance between brands so if I do buy one to dink around with I want to get the best available choice. I am thinking in terms of attempting a pseudo G 43 and an perhaps an SMLE or Arisaka Neither would be a perfect conversion (probably pretty dreadful) but if all that is invested is time and little expense I'd like to give it a go. i realize a G43 was semi auto and these would be "cock each time" but functionally and tactically I figured they would be stand ins for Kar 98s which tragically are not sufficiently reliable and affordalble enough for our hobby. The goal is materials costs below $75.00
The SMLE or Arisaka would be along the limes of the super cheap Mosin Nagant project. The recent success and familiarization with the springer M14 magazines convinces me I can create approriate looking magazines for either.
