typically this site receives on average a new forum member at a rate of around one a week. Far more lurkers and visitors than that but about one new signed on member a week. Over the last month we have spiked with new members significantly with several days where we added as many as three in a day. I suspect discussions about new products like the S&T Springfield have some bearing on that but like to think also that interest in our hobby is also growing.
I want all newly signed on members to know tht they are encouraged to post questions, contribute comments and become active in the Forum and its great to have you on board. if you hear of an event going on near you that you would like to participate in be sure your familiar with the uniform and equipment standards but don't shy away from joining in as typically the members will be more than generous in providing you whatever you might not initially have. This is an incredibly cordial group who are excited to get you started right. The discussions about high standards are not intended to scare you off but to insure that new members avoid pitfalls and poor purchases that we all did when we were new. welcome to WW2 Airsoft. Be forewarned, it's an addictive hobby that continues to get better and better.

This spike in new membership coincides with the opening of the WW2AA airsoft Facebook page. I would think we can contribute some of the new sign ups to it. So I would say showing our face on Face Book so far is helping. We have 75 likes with over 30 of them happening this week. Been trying to post something new each week to keep it interesting. I will continue to post a link to the forum to get more of them to come here. Facebook just is not as good a site for posting detailed info as Proboards is. This forum is super valuable in the amount of info stored here and the ability to carry on organizes discussion. Facebook is good for propaganda and event announcements., and wasting time.....

interesting insight. You're probably right as to how our new members are finding us. Curious if some of the newly signed on members would like share how you found us? I always send off a welcome to the site, note to every new member but should ask.

I know that I've posted about this forum on my World War Allen Airsoft Facebook page. I definitely agree that the Facebook page has brought in new people.

I have had several new sign ups who have PM'd me to say they googles info on some Ww2 airsofth guns and found us that way. Others mentioned the facebook presence. the new sign ups continue at 2 to 3 a day. This and some of the new nexpensive weapons offerings are very encouraging.

Twenty new members in a little over a week. I ask how they found us and the responses are widely varied. Friends, research on a new airsoft offering which takes many to our discussions, the FB page leads them here. New members are quite international as this latest batch includes France, Ireland Finland, and England. We have a huge number of lurkers who visit the site but seldom if ever post. Hopefully they know they are encouraged to participate more actively?

A strong community always helps. People like having other people to stand with them, so I would suggest everyone a) keep this forum alive and active, keep up discussions, post anything on the subject really. Maybe even some gun off-topic stuff. And b) get out to games! We may be reenactors, but most guys want to know if they put money into a kit, they won't be the only people on planet earth doing it. Hence my idea for a stronger midwest WWII community.
Sgt. Tom was a huge voice in MI, but since he's dropped off, it's faded... I am willing to step up to the bat and get this sport moving and vibrant. If you'd be able to help me/us, PM me. I have experience in doing this after setting up multiple games and having been on multiple teams (two of which I helped form). Let's keep this community strong.

The key is leadership. As key mavens come and go others have to step up to drive their local efforts.

Within the last 24 hours 7 new members signed onto the site. When you see how many views some of our threads get there really is a significant following on the site. To each and every new member, Welcome! And please join in and help us promote this little corner of airsoft and help it grow!

i went back to review new signed on members for the month of June and the total was 42 new signed on Forum members. This is a huge spike from historical numbers and additionally there are several "old" participants who I see have recently found their way back into the hobby. The most common remark from "old" members who were active 3 to 5 years ago is the influx of new and affordable WW2 weapons choces and indeed this is huge as it really makes our hobby far more viable. traditionally the cost of custom guns or reduced authenticity of incrrect weaponry was a real deterent for potential players. We have a long way to go but things are moving in the right direction. By the way members are from pretty much every corner of the world. this is sppropriate as WW2 was a global affair. robably because of the effect of film and video games most depict US and German but there is a mve toward more Pacific Theater which is nice to see.

So the higher than normal new member registrations continues but I am seeing a pattern that is perplexing to me. (perhaps others here have an explanation?). About a third of the sign ins in the last month and a half use some variant of "webcheck" in their moniker and a dramatically disproportionate number of emails have either SMITH or CLARK in their addresses. What the heck is that all about? I suspect something other than legitimacy in quite a few of these "new members". With that said a significant number are in fact legitimate as they have responded to my welcome PM or have posted on the forum.
I am enjoy sending a welcome message to all legitimate new members but it is annoying to think that perhaps half of them are "shell enrollements" and if so why?

Likely the same kind of spam that plagues every other forum out there. Happy to see so many new members. Happier to be back, myself!

Thats what I thought but thus far haven't seen an influx of spam that needed deleting although perhaps some other moderator is cleaning it up?
