An actual gas tube with very minor modifications works great but can be expensive. Gun shows with flawed or out of spec or demilled are your best bet. I have in the past fabricated some decent looking gas tubes with some cylinders and creative sculpture work using resin paste which saves financial resources but are time intensive.

For those less skilled with sculpting but on a limited budget. Use appropriate sized tubing to create the lower gas recoil tube and what in effect would be the thin rear barrel ring and thicker forward ring and then JB weld actual front site, locking lug and if desired a stacking swivel. Low quality front sites, locking lugs can usually be found at gun shows for $5.00 to $10.00 each. Hence your front assembly can be fabricated into a decent look for around $25.00. Complete assemblies typically run $65.00 to $85.00 but occassionally can be found for less.
