I got this in from 2ndBat earlier. If I knew something like this goes on, I would have tried to get my ass there sooner. Might be fun joining in full Scottish Black Watch kit!
I recently went to a very cool Armored Museum in Old Bethpage New York (on long Island). They have the usual static exterior and interior displays with a great selection of mostly WW2 vehicles. all the US iconic weapons on hand. Perhaps the coolest thing is that every year they host some emmersive experiences where guests pay to be outfitted in period garb and loaded onto half tracks where they become a part of an orchestrated, unfolding dramatic combined arms attack with reenactors. Blank fire, simulated explosions, troops rushing about orders shouted and intense action as the armored convoy weaves its way through narrow trails simulating the Normandy countryside. I wasn't present for this event which was last held in July but what a cool fund raiser for the museum. Here are a few pictures from their web site The Museum is closed for the next 10 days as the facility and grounds will host a massive steeple chase event for runners. Feel free to post this under WW2 Radio Shack if you'd like. I bet the museum would welcome some of our members support at these emmersive events! 2nd Bat

Seriously cool. This is what a military museum should be like in my opinion. If I was in New York I'd have liked to run that steeplechase event too!

The collection of vehicles and displays are wonderful and the forests and distant restored village of Bethpage have a decidedly European look which adds to the ambiance. If you visit their web page there is a short video that gives a very nice feel for the interactive emmersive experience.
