From producers Stephen Spielberg and Tom Hanks (BAND OF BROTHERS and The Pacific) this purportedly 500 million dollar project will feature stories of the US Army Air Corp daytime bomber crews over Europe. It was announced earlier under a more confusing title but will now be called The Mighty Eighth! It is scheduled for release by 2017. Incredible subject matter. With a big budget and in a mini series format I expect it will be fabulous.

Before anyone blows a gasket: There is a "Mighty Eigth" trailer on youtube HOWEVER, it is completely unrelated (to the point of being a film school project) to this upcoming show.

I am sure a lot of CG will be utilized but based on the producers chops from past endeavors lots of actual aircraft will be used and much attention to detail. When Spielberg was a kid he together with his buddies shot "war movies". His father drove them out to an aircraft boneyard where many vintage planes were just rotting in the desert. I bet he wishes he had access to that resource today. Funny how things come full circle.
