Also, I downloaded that Wikipedia version and checked it out in PhotoShop. It looks great on a computer monitor, but magnifying the image shows that it is VERY pixilated and will print out poorly in real life, the results would prove extremely diappointing. I'll do a high res scan of my armband and clean it up when I get a chance.

OK, I did a bit of work on these projects, just because I had the time last night:
--Scanned in early war and DAK breast eagles, tweaked the color on the DAK one to make it into a late war eagle
-- Scanned one of the ATF defect litzen, fixed the defect, flipped the image to create a pair
-- Started messing with the designs to "sanitize" the swazi. This is actually a fun design project. A blank wreath jumps out too much, and an iron cross is too fat. I was trying to create something that would retain the 45 degree angles and blend in from a distance, but clearly not be a swastika up close. The three best things to my eye were A)A diamond over a diamond that looks like an angular 8; B) Close in the open sides so that it's basically like a window turned 45 degrees or C) tweaking opened and closed sides so that the finished product resembles a menorah... my humorous side likes that one the best!
_-- I also started (and I guess finished) playing with the Volkssturm armband. I scanned the one I have and ended up with a much sharper version than the Wikipedia one Drac found. Unfortunately, it was tough getting it scanned with the lines straight, and by the time I eliminated the artifacts of the fabric, the edges of the printing looked quite rough. I'm sure it would have turned out perfectly acceptable, but I just didn't like it. So I set about just making up my own version. I noticed that repros have a wide variation in type fonts and eagle styles, so I used the most appropriate ones I could find and built up a full-size, high res copy of the design, with extra red at the top and bottom to fold over for a stitched edge. The results I think are very good, and I already uploaded to spoonflower and ordered a sample. Unfortunately, there is no possibility of having these ready for Aachen, but since a yard of the cotton sateen will yield 36 armbands (!), going forward we will be positively swimming in very nice looking VS repros.

Got a winning swazi alternate (IMHO anyway): A Jerusalem cross turned 45 degrees is just perfect:

Oh crap, that looks very good! I like that design! A lot better than just a simple plus sign, or an angled one, or with it just missing!

Thanks Drac! This may come close to passing the 10 ft. rule (at least with my eyesight).
I have a few more items that need scanning-- including a Heer M43 cap badge, and SS stuff if you want that.
I'm wondering if SS collar tabs are worth doing. For LW tabs, it would be easy to buy some yellow craft felt and glue it to cardboard backing, then all you need is the gull devices which are cheap. But it seems SS could be done the same way: Black felt on cardboard backers. If you want to avoid offensive symbols of any sort, leave them at that and just have two black collar tabs. If you want runes, I don't think cutting and gluing them from fabric would look any worse than screen printed on cotton (a different set of infidelities, but in my eyes it's a wash). Would still need the sleeve eagle, which should be easy enough.
Once I get it all digital, I'll hand it off to you for setup and printing. I'm having quite a bit of fun with this!

Hmmm... I don't mind remaking SS and LW tabs, but I will need some physically to reverse engineer them. I know "reverse engineering" is a strong term to use for something simple like collar tabs, but I really do need a physical copy in front of me to copy.

They're easy, I've made LW ones myself in a matter of minutes. I'll get the dimensions sorted out and post them here.

Scanned and ran up sanitized versions of the early war Heer, late war Heer, LW, and SS eagles. Also have the DAK eagle.
As soon as I can get the M43 cap trapezoid scanned and make a modified version of that, we may be about there with this. Unless you can think of something else that would be useful. Now would be the time.

So...any progress on this? I know there have been lots of distractions lately but would love to see this move ahead!

While both Inster and I (probably just me) have been busy, we managed to make some progress and I'm awaiting the e-mail with all the juicy bits to make it Spoonflower printable.

Not sure how we are going to divvy these up at first, but there will be PLENTY to go around once we start cranking these out like clockwork. You will probably be the first in line after Inster and I.
