Let me preface by saying this was probably our best event with the exception of maybe the Georgia event which I was unable to go to.
The event was intended to start at about 10AM but it was delayed a bit as one might expect. Anyways we started a bit later, the axis took one of the objectives to it's place ( A very heavy mock artillery piece) and they set up at the first objective. The first objective was a small pillbox type thing on a hill which they, rather smartly, chose to not really put anybody there but rather around it. The allies initially charged in and got bogged up as a result of smart shooting by the axis which bogged the Allies down from advancing effectively, however, the greater numbers prevailed and the Axis pulled into a tactical retreat. Again the stationed themselves around the objective (A bridge) rather then on it. After maybe 30 minutes, perhaps out of pity the Axis again pulled back to perhaps the biggest objective with the best defensive capabilities, a mock FOB (Forward operating base).
Effectively using their Mg42, the Allies advance were halted with only a small group of 2 penetrating the lines only to find themselves shot. This went on for about 45 minutes or so and a lunch time/water break and a switch sides was established meaning the Allies now would defend the previous objectives. After a 30 minute or more break the teams switched sides and the skill of the Axis was once again shown
Again the first objective was the pillbox and the allies tried to pull off a similar defense but this broke down very quickly, within the first 10 or so minutes the Germans had both flanks and were accomplishing a sort of pincer maneuver on the objective. In the chaos of trying to reorganize on the bridge objective, they were quickly overwhelmed and allowed to pause and reorganize on the third objective (The FOB).
The third objective, perhaps due to it's construction in nature, lasted a bit longer then the first two objectives but again the German mg42 was utilized to full effect and flanks were used eventually leading to the fall of the FOB. Now the Germans were essentially in a mop up mode to take the last objective, the artillery piece. There wasn't much cover as it was really just trees so while the Americans held off the best they could, it fell rather quickly as well.
Here is a video of the event from the point of view of the event coordinator and later one of the other allies. It should be said that we also had a very high uniform standard that was followed and many of the allies were from a local blank fire group who, hopefully, intend to join other events with maybe even more joining as well as possible vehicles
