Good morning all.
I thought that since the Marushin M1 Garand magazines in 8mm calibre cannot be found for love nor money anymore, I would post this link to the forum:
www.thingiverse.com/thing:646720
I would hasten to point out that the files found at the above link are not of my work: all credit goes to the original creator Karanadon.
I downloaded the files and then uploaded them to Shapeways who sent me out the parts in less than a week. Putting them all together gave me a working 8mm magazine which will work in the M1: the plastic material used is strong and flexible (dare I say more elastic than the brittle plastic used in the originals).
A word of caution: if using small screws to assemble the parts, make sure that the holes are pre-drilled. Although I pre-drilled the holes, the screws I used caused the 'wings' of the magazine to bulge outwards slightly which meant that it would get partially stuck in the received when ejecting (which might actually be a bonus to those not wanting to lose their magazines!). After a gentle bend, the magazine was being flung clear.
I hope this proves useful to whoever needs spares for their Garand.

If there's one gun that needs throwaway cheap clips/mags, it's this one.

Just thought I'd try and contribute to this awesome forum You could possibly get them cheap enough if you buy them in bulk. The one I purchased so far (as a tester) cost about 20 quid including postage from Shapeways. The only postage option was international courier which bumped the price up.

Your contribution is much appreciated! Shapeways is an American company right? If so, our US members won't have to worry as much about shipping costs. What did you use for a magazine spring once you got it?

I used a spare piece of spring from a Tokyo Marui recoil magazine.

What a fabulous resource for those precious few players who have a FUNCTIONING Marushin M1 Garand. after 3 years of use, and loosing hundreds of clips, all I have to say about this topic is maintenance and some creative replacement of parts will keep any gun running. it still hits like a damn tank and never looses it's cool

I just got my two Garands (assembled from 3 partial working) to working condition. As I have just about 15 clips, this might be very usefull. Thanks for resurrecting the thread.

Got the clips made here. Working flawlessly. Tested the Garand on range and it seems .45 will be my ammo of choice for the correct, straight and quite consistent fly path.

Has anyone tried 3D printing other Airsoft magazines, like for a thompson or anything?
I have a 3D printer, and have been curious about projects like this for a while.
I would like to 3D print the 20/30/40 round sized magazines for my airsoft Beretta 38 MAB. But I am unsure how to 3D print the internals of the mag, how much space it needs, how to get the spring in there, etc.
