Hey y'all, so I posted here a couple years ago asking about tunics. I never got around to putting a impression together.
But here I am again wanting to put something together. But I have a few questions.
So I'm looking at helmets from ATF and Epic. I want to do a SS impression. From my understanding SS wore black helmets? I've been doing tons of reading on the SS for months. But I really can't get a clear answer. Most places just pint to the "field grey" color.
But epic has a m35 painted black. It looks really good. And I'm really interested in it. Just two problems. I really prefer the m42. They don't have that in black. But ATF's m35 and m42 are a good bit cheaper. But I do NOT like their color.
So what to do? How tough is it to strip a helmet and paint it? Can anyone offer advice?
Would a m42 look bad for a generic SS impression?
Any advice would be helpful. I'm really wanting to learn as much as I can about the SS and their uniforms. But the info is scattered about and idk what to trust.

Combat divisions of the SS did not regularly wear black helmets. The black ones IIRC are for parades. They wore field grey ones like the Heer, sometimes with helmet covers. For any impression after 1942-ish, which is most of ours on this board, an M42 is fine.

Get a field grey (RAL6006) M42 helmet for a generic SS impression, it's the best you can do. If you're going early war, get an M40 with decals then. Black uniforms are for Allgemeine-SS only, which was the pre-war SS.
stuka: well the forum is and should still be useful for updates on guns, creating groups/events and building kits

Dracul: I think Redwolf has a Enfield. If not or not longer, then not until G&G releases theirs. The old gas Iron Airsoft brand SMLE isn't carried by anyone anymore and was such piece of crap. Not worth trying to track one down.

ajman: I don't think there's gonna be anything in northern New England anytime soon, and as far as I know there hasn't been in a while, but if you're willing to drive to Connecticut there's usually some decent sized battles a couple times a year.
