I'm thinking about doing a Home Guard impression, just for kicks. Any experts around here? From what I've read, the denim battle dress uniform was common. And leather belts instead of the P-37 webbing. Also, I've seen quite few pics of Home Guard with two ammunition pouches, but they're not the tall P-37 "Bren" pouches. They're short, square pouches. Anyone know what they were? Thanks.

Not an expert, but I know for the most part the home guard carried P14 Enfields (which was later rechambered to 30-06 and became the M1917 Remington). Perhaps they were specific to that rifle?

Possibly. I haven't found anything that looks like them at the usual places (WPG, At the Front etc). Historical trivia: during the summer of 1940 the US sent Britain over 600,000 M1917 Enfields, eventually shipping close to a million. Virtually all of these went to the Home Guard, which simplified the ammunition supply situation. The British war reserve of Pattern 14's was about 90,000 rifles. Part of the reason for those photographs of American draftees in 1940-41 drilling with wooden rifles is because the US war reserve rifles had mostly gone to Britain.

The Home Guard also used the Browning Automatic Rifle, since all the Brens had been put into line infantry formations. So if you have a BAR, you should be set in terms of weapons.

For photographic purposes, I have a demilled P-14 I found a few years ago.
