Looking for naval fighters on the web I found this article with pictures of Republic P-47 Thunderbolts embarked on aircraft carriers. There was a naval version of this plane? Probably just being transported by escort carriers. It was a pretty common practice, especially if they were going places where port facilities weren't available. They'd fly off the carrier and land at an airstrip on shore.

Note they don't have tailhooks or folding wings so definitely set up for a one way carrier trip. Markings are also Army not Naval markings.
