I see where Evike has now pushed back their delivery estimate to April . Hopefully by then other retailers will have them and spare clips will be available. Really glad Volks got one out of the initial shipment so we can enjoy his experiences while we wait for ours!

Hey guys, I found this thread on google.
Question, is the rifle volks has the A&K? Everything I am reading is a 22 round mag and single only.
Is the evike website wrong, or did I miss that he was talking about a different M1 Rifle.
"Magazine Capacity: 20 round A&K M1 Garand magazines Fire Modes: Semi-Auto, Safety"
Thanks,

I've got the A&K, and the Evike site is wrong. It has a full auto setting and you can get 30-34 bb's in the mag. (shrugs).

Outside of price, I'd never really take Evike's item descriptions for any value. They get soooo much wrong a lot of the time. They even shove their own brand name over the actual manufacturers on their listings....

Glad to see the somewhat larger mag capacity as my airsoft rule of thumb goal is three BBs for every real weapons mag capacity. (20 round Thompson or BAR would be limited to 60 rounds and a Garand loaded to 24). Since a low cap mag typically drops 3 or 4 BBs unloaded around 30 rounds sounds perfect. My modified flush mounted shotgun mags for the M14 conversions are a bit too much of a hassle at 12 to 15 loadable rounds. Frequent Reloads really change the character or airsoft events and do a lot to contribute to realism, team work and tactics. The spray and pray hose fests that are characteristic of most airsoft events have little appeal to me.

Volks with some fiddle time did you ever get the mag to lock in correctly? Any word anywhere on spare clip availability and pricing? As Feb draws near and thoughts of spring WW2 airsoft events crop up I am getting closer to placing a pre order.

I haven't fiddled around with it lately. I'll have to do that. I see that Evike is taking preorders for M1s for March. I sent them an email asking about spare mags.

Took another look at it. I can't figure out how to separate the receiver from the stock. There's four screws in the mag well. I took those out. Nothing seems to want to move. The trigger guard is hinged like an M1, but it doesn't release anything. If there's more screws holding this together they've got them well hidden. I'm leery of trying to use too much force on it. I can see a couple possible work arounds. There's a little side to side slop in the fit. This seems to allow the mag to slip out from under the mag catch. Maybe a little shim on the opposite side would stop that.

Very odd that there was no owners manual. Given time there no doubt will be. I'm sure a YouTube self help and disassembly is inevitable. The clips appear to be designed as affordable accessories and if the S&T Springfield clip is anything to go on I'm predicting they will be. If so this rifle really does look promising.
I noticed in one of your pictures Volks you show the clip slipped into a Garand belt pouch. Does the flap snap over it? It appears a bit too long to do so?

It's just a little too long to snap. I put a piece of shipping tape over the back of the mag and that seems to keep it from dropping out on its own. It'll be interesting to see if this is a problem with newer ones.

If it's something that can be readily fixed with a little spacer added then no big deal. A good likelihood that other spares might work fine or if they are consistently "off" a consistent more permanent "fix" can no doubt be applied to a batch of them. I would say if each clip feeds 28 rounds or so five or six rounds and a couple speed loaders would be more than sufficient for skirmishing with this rifle.😁

I see that one of the links showing availability and pricing for spare clips for the A&K Garand shows a price of 10.95 euros. ($14.00 US roughly). That gives a good indication that these should be pretty affordable as early available pricing on accessories for new releases tend to be quite high. Clips for the ICS Garand were initially double what you can often find them for now. I hope that pattern holds true for these as well.
Actually even at $14.00 with the attractive price on this rifle one could acquire it and a quantity of spare clips for well below what an ICS or GnG would run.

Evike answered my email today. They say spare mags will be available when the M1's arrive in March. We'll see...

That being the case I will for sure put one on order. Spare clips for the GnG remain too elusive for my taste.

Thats actually priced quite nicely. As long as the A&K M1's maintain a reputation of holding their own, durability and reliability wise, the affordable mags will go great with the affordable gun. I may just pick one up to suppliment my 2ndBat M1.

The A&K is at a price point I had always hoped would one day be achievable and affordable clips would really be iicing on the cake. Imagine if A&K further economized and offered a faux wood version which could further reduce the cost of entry. There really isn't any reason such an offering would need to be significantly more than an M14 and I have to believe sales volume would be in sync (or exceed) any one of the M14 contenders. Let's hope it proves to be robust and reliable.
Visually I don't find it as distracting as the oversized (in several places) ICS and I love my ICS.

A&K clips are now available at Evike. $12. On sale for $9.00 at the moment. www.evike.com/shop/28/23/56/431/Interestingly, they say "42 round" while everyone else says "22".

Nice find. Shipping shouldn't be horrible for them (even from Hong Kong). Let us know if you decide to order there vs waiting on Evike. Assuming it continues to function well and is a good distance shooter this A&K seems like a winner.

Evike shows the clips in stock but the rifle is again a pre order with a JUNE ETA. They have currently 25% off which puts the rifle at $229.00 and magazines at 9.00 each. A Garand AEG and perhaps 180 ready rounds for under $300.00 Real wood stock 400 FPS...pinch me! Volks you're getting roughly 30 rounds out of each clip so five or six spares should be more than enough for our events.

I haven't taken mine apart. Typically I absolutely refrain from doing so with any of my airsoft guns unless something isn't working right and I have to. I truly believe it's why I seldom have trouble with AEGs relative to a lot of people. In the case of the A&K there was absolutely no owners manual (whatsoever) which was curious. At some places point I will need to do a basic take down to clean it and will see what's what when I do. I am guessing it field strips similar to a real one with the first step being to remove the trigger assembly but the next step isn't as I had imagined as something is holding the upper assembly in the stock and I couldn't find what it was. It may just be friction and a tight snug fit but I didn't want to force it.

I tried removing the four screws inside the magwell, but it still didn't seem to want to come apart. I didn't see anything obvious and I didn't want to force it. Could just be a tight fit but I think there must be some other place where it's screwed together. Someday a brave person will find it (or break their gun).

What about taking rifles apart I am ascertain that every new chinese rifle has to be taken apart, inner parts tuned, greased, tighten and so on. But it is my own experience.

Typically I find that barrels need cleaning but the early days of Gearboxes lacking grease (or more often) overly greased hasn't been chronic like it once was. This A & K and the ICS both shot great right out of the box and with way over 10k rounds through it my ICS still shoots great.
Incidentally I got my stock iterations done with the hand grip bulge sanded down and the augmentation piece added in front of the mag well. I sanded it down, did my final finish work and applied my first coat of Walnut stain tonight.
We'll see tomorrow how much extra work it will need. The cheap as once sanded down showcased nicely once restained. My concern is how effectively I will be able to blend the augmentation piece.

Finished applying a dark walnut stain and it blended quite nicely with the resin augmentation piece. With the hand grip area shaved down and the reshaping in front of the magwell the rifle looks quite good. The stain accents the wood grain very nicely. Much better than the factory delivered stain and while I have a few more details to add prior to adding a final protective dull coat I am very pleased with how it came out.
It is my new favorite airsoft gun. Shoots hard and straight, feels wonderful (albeit heavier than a Buick) and feeds fresh clips seamlessly. All for under $300.00 even with a nice batch of spare magazines. It's a shame the augmentation work is required but heck I like doing it anyway.
I heartily recommend this gun. They are currently on Evike at $229.00 with spare 30 + round clips for $9.00. Due to arrive (supposedly) in September.

Finished all the final detail work and delighted with the end result. If anyone is considering the project and want pictures documenting the process just PM me and I'll send pictures to your email. Be sure to give me your email.
If I knew how to post pictures I would post them here.
