Anyone else here thinking about buying one of RWA's Enfields when they come out and converting it into a Kar98K? From the pictures I've seen it looks like the mag will be in the proper place. Also has anyone thought of using an Ares MCM700X as a base gun?

I would use a Tokyo Marui L96 as a base gun for that (or a clone of one.) The RWA Enfield would be a waste of money and a gorgeous replica of a No.4. Besides, the L96 shoots better (probably) and it is upgradeable while the No.4 is not. The L96's receiver would require a lot of grinding to make it look right, but I would go with that route if you wanted a Kar98 springer with the mag in the right place.

To be honest, that would be pretty pointless. Yeah, yeah, the mag position. But if you are going to spend that much on an Enfield, just keep it an Enfield. There isn't too many airsoft Enfields out there and it would be a shame to see them just converted to Kar98s...

I couldn't agree more. Look for someone to post a Bar10 VSR/ Mauser conversion either here or on EBAY. You can typically buy a nicely done one for $350 to $450.00 (which isn't much more than they cost in materials alone) and they usually are good, hard shooting, accurate (for airsoft) air rifles that you readily fix if they break and are easy to get parts for.

Thing is, I want the mag to blend in with the gun, not sure how I'm gonna replicate the wood.

I have seen the bases of the VSR mags treated to a very credible faux wood finish that blend nicely into the stock base and even applied veneer. There still of course is the slight outline of the magwell but when done well it is very discrete and on a portion of the rifle that is rarely exposed to view.
To each his own of course. From a dollar and cents perspective and pure functionality the Kar98 and VSR marriages are the best compromises we have for now with regard to bolties. The S &T Springfield is a wonderful replica visually but functioninally falls short. They do a very clever job of disquising the magazines. I frankly think it would be a better base for creating a Kar 98. Understand they are not easily upgraded and magazine loading is very unwieldy.
I think there is an upgraded S&T listed by SSGT Migs. Marry it with a boneyard D Boys Kar98 and for somewhere around $500.00 to $600.00 you're all set

Also, if you are willing to pay high, you might just want to look at the Redfire and GG Kar98s. Not springs, but still quality items and have the mag in the right place.

How has the Redfire gas Kar98 performed and held up? I loath gas guns for a litany of reasons but know people with the Tanaka Kar98 who have used and been happy with them for years. The Redfire as I understand it is a clone of the Tanaka? Of course that doesn't mean it's as good, sometimes the clones are better (Marui vs jg bar 10 VSRs for example.)
