Hi! I'm new and I've decided I wanna take up ww2 reenacting but I'm stuck on which country I wanna do. I have KMT and IJA in my mind but I wanna know which one is more budget friendly. I'm not buying the uniform and gear right away because I'm cutting and losing weight so I wanna wait until I reached my goals before purchasing uniforms. Also, on hikishop's site, he doesn't have the green khaki uniform anymore and has the brown uniform now. But the problem is the KMT caps he sells isn't the same color as the uniforms. Do you think I can still get the green uniform if I contact him to get mines tailored if I go the KMT route?

No clue. I like very much seeing more and more people doing IjN load outs as Pacific theater is so well suited to airsoft. The new Arisaka rifle will hopefully be a good shooter and reliable. If so we should see interest in the PTO expand.

I was leaning towards KMT because of the availability of reasonably affordable KMT weapons such as the zb30 and Chiang kai shek rifle. A Chiang kai shek rifle is 270 USD plus the 100+ shipping from Hong Kong while a zb30 is 290 on sale on evile if it's within this price range or cheaper then I'll be swearing my alliegange to Hirohito.

There is a IJA group in Kansas, they have a ZB30. In the CBI (china burma india) theatre, the japanese used tons of the captured chinese zb30 rifles and can be seen in many pictures. Even several pictures of them wearing the leather chest ammo rig for the zb30 magazines.

What is the Chiang Kai Shek rifle? OK, found it. Dang, there's about everything on the Internet. Never heard the term CKS rifle before. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiang_Kai-shek_rifleA copy of the Mauser Model 1924, forerunner of the Kar98. You learn something everyday.

Toshi, where are you based? PTO airsoft seems to be finally gaining a little traction, and there are a couple of IJA groups that I know of across the country. There's a well established one in the SoCal area, one in Kansas, and my embryonic one in Michigan, as well as Stuka doing his own thing down in Florida. All of us would be happy to have you on board to add to our bayonet strength. The cheap ($300) Type 38, provided it isn't trash, will be a huge benefit to this niche of a niche hobby.
That said, we don't see many Chinese impressions, and I would love to be able to do an Operation Ichigo event, so if you want to do KMT, go for it! Both sides are fairly affordable too, and both used captured equipment in large quantities, so down the road, being able to portray both sides would be cool too.
Finally, good call on deciding to lose weight before buying uniforms. WWII soldiers (especially Chinese and Japanese ones) were very skinny by modern American standards, and being in 'authentic shape' will benefit your life in other areas too.

I probably won't be very skinny by the time since I'm in weight training as well and most likely I'll be toned. I also appreciate the offers for joining but my dad doesn't really want me to wear ranks I didn't earn since he's in the actual military but that's just him and I wanna respect that. So I guess I'll be rankless. And the only problem I see with doing a KMT impression is the color of the uniform. Hiki's khaki tunic and trousers aren't brown while his hat is a more green. I'm not sure if I can get a contact him for a custom tailor green tunic if I go the KMT route.

Now what would be really nice if the b*stards at SRC made that goddamn mp18 they promised 3 years ago. Both sides used it and it has the advantage of being more skirmishable for regular games as it's a full auto aeg.

Your uniform regardless of initial shade will take on greater authenticity with exposure to the elements. Your Texas sunshine should quickly add to your overall look along with dirt, grime and multiple washings. The Green and brown disparity will deminish over time.
