Does anyone know where I can get extra snaps for a M42 jump jacket. The closest snap on the left wrist area was defective, and it came off a while ago, so I put it back on. It just happened today as well.

At fabric shops typically you can find both shiney (and occasionally) black snaps of the type you need. They usually come with a small tool that is sized and shaped to cradle the rounded cap and provide a post you can hammer to secure the snap. There is also a fancy (somewhat expensive ) tool that works very slick if you're installing a lot of them.
I have painted the shiny ones with decent results when I couldn't find subdued ones. Back in the day when M42 reproductions were $400.00 a set I fabricated a dozen of them in my shop and still issue out seven or eight of them that have soldiered in my costume shop for 15 years!

The standard large black snaps at fabric stores are what you'll want. Joann, Hobby Lobby, etc. I really suggest the pliers, much easier to use than trying to hammer them in.

Indeed but if you're only replacing one snap? Pretty expensive to buy the tool for a one time application. Another thought (heresy I know ). Is to leave it non functional. Crazy idea but I suspect (though not documented by pictures) that some M42 snaps went bad on real paratroopers during the war!
