Interesting question. I googled it and found a discussion on this forum about it. www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65025They didn't agree on it, but it's possible they used a hemp sling. One poster claimed the original plans showed a sling. Another said they were probably improvised.

It wouldn't really affect the operation of it and that's what I'm gonna do with mine, after I turn it into a TAG launcher

I have absolutely no doubt improvised slings were used using whatever was readily available. I base that on spending years in the Infantry and knowing the nature of soldiers and life in the field. With that said what I WOULDN'T do is drill holes in the tube. First because a drill wasn't a readily available device and two because a hole would provide unplanned exit routes for hot gases effecting the rounds effectiveness and creating a hazard to the operator. These things were scary enough to fire as it was.
Incidentally though an Axis weapon they were popular with Allied soldiers as their abundance, simplicity and effectiveness were much appreciated.

I agree with 2nd Bat on this one. Rope was an easily available material on the front line; simply tying a length of rope around convenient parts of the weapon to make a crude sling would be a realistic solution in my book.

Since the launcher for the panzerfaust is a thin sheet metal tube, and beneath that thin sheet metal is another sheet metal tube the forms the tail of the projectile, drilling holes to mount loops for a sling would probably pin the projectile to the launcher. Firing a real one modified like that would be "interesting."
