An interesting film clip. German soldiers and civilians leaving Czechoslovakia and surrendering to US troops at the end of the war, May 1945. Machine translation of the title is "The last pictures of the Wehrmacht in color". www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgOgBaj7UEYAmazing collection of vehicles, most of them crammed with passengers inside, on top and hanging on. Probably a good idea to get the heck out of Dodge at that point. Neither the Czechs nor the Soviet troops were too fond of Germans.

Fabulous mix of vehicles and camouflage schemes as wide range of uniforms. I am trying to figure out the significant number of civilian women in these military vehicles. Lots of assorted halftrack variations and quite a few Ford Trucks. It makes me feel better about the motly mix of German costumes I have accumulated. If anything the variations and sloppiness of my costumes with widely varied shades and mismatched trousers, tunics and smocks is if anything quite authentic!
Great resource video. These troops were no doubt eager to be surrendering to US GIs. Amazed at the numbers who are still armed and wearing helmets and web gear?

I figure the civilians were probably ethnic Germans from Czechoslovakia or possibly wives and family of German soldiers and officials in the occupation government. And maybe some Czech girlfriends leaving with their German boyfriends. Maybe being good Germans, the soldiers weren't going to abandon their weapons until they had proper authorization?
