I was interested in getting an M1 Garand this winter not just for WWII games but for regular airsoft skirmishes as well. Based on what I've seen doing some research here more people on the forum seem to have ICS Garands and are very satisfied with them despite the over-sizing and other cosmetic issues like the buttplate and gas assembly.
I've heard that the ICS M1 right out of the box is excellent: very accurate, very durable and generally a very reliable weapon without upgrading to the point that some members say it is their favorite airsoft weapon.
I've also heard the A&K M1 is a very accurate weapon weapon but does have it's share of cosmetic issues particularly around the grip of the stock. I've also read that it does have issues with the magazines not loading to their max capacity and with the weapon not firing at all or jamming when using Semi-Automatic.
So for those that have them, what do you think? If you could only buy one which would you get? Which one do you believe to be more skirmishable?

I have both and would be hard pressed to pick one over the other. The cosmetic issues were easier (for me )to remedy on the A& K. I sanded down the pistol grip bulges and added an agmentation to the narrow stock. With the ICS the oversized gas assembly and other infidelities were not possible to completely hide. The magazine's for th A&I were less expensive as is the rifle itself. Both shoot great and are accurate and have held up well. I would but either again but if I had to buy just one for me it would be the A & K. The wood on both sides screams for restaining.

I saw some of your restaining pics in another thread, not all the pics would load and they only loaded on mobile for some reason, regardless the rifles look 100 times better. Would you mind reposting those photos here of your sanding and restaining process? I would be really interested in seeing how you fixed the roundness of the A&K stock.

I don't think I have old pictures around any where but I'll look. As for the exaggerated rounded pistol grip area in the neck all I did was sand it down. My initial fear was there wouldn't be room due to the AEG motor but that really wasn't an issue at all. The A& K is considerably thicker through this area even after sanding than my conversions made with actual stocks. They were so thin I had to reinforce them on the inside with fiberglass. The stock augmention was familiar ground for me as I did probably 250 or them on my M14 to M1 Garage conversions. The M14 like thin stock on the A & K makes me wonder if they didn't base their design on one of my early early conversions before I did the Augmentations?
As with my M14 conversions I impacted a number of stubby screws into the stock creating the approximate shape I wanted and then slopped on dynaglass resin paste, shaped and sanded it and then did what I could to blend the stains to hide the addition. The end result was very satisfactory. It looks seamless, is rock solid and provides a little more authentic heft and balance.
My only complaint on the A & K is the flimsy wiring which you have treat somewhat delicately.

My original modification pictures are still up on this forum in the armory section discuss n on the A&K garand They were posted for me by Hunterand are on the third page of the thread. They are not in order depicting the chronological process but that should be easy to figure out. The mod continues to hold up well and the stain if anything looks better with age and use. I should take a group picture of all my Garages and have people guess who makes which ones and which ones you think are real wood!
