So followin on from my M1 Garand GBBR conversion, I decided I wanted to do a mid to later war Gebirgsjäger impression. I knew I wanted a semi-automatic weapon, the most iconic of them being the G43 (despite not that many of them being made, about 500k I think). So I knew I wanted a G43 and not an AEG as I find them pretty dull. So I ended up with the AimTop SVD GBBR. I did some basic designing on some free 3D design software and had the the receiver bridge/rear sight, bolt carrier and rear receiver cover 3D printed. I didn't want to buy a repro G43 stock as I knew the dimensions would be off. So all I had to do was make a plywood stock from scratch! And make the barrel band from aluminium tube which was cut and added to with a face plate and steel sling loop. I finished it today. Metal and 3D printed parts have been primed with acid etch primer, sprayed black and then grate blackened to make them look like steel. I cocked up the handguard by having the plywood grain running in the same direction as the stock. So I painted and varnished it to look like bakelite. I have oiled the stock like they did with the originals but might give it another coat or two just to darken it a bit more. Cheers!

Very cool! Another member just did an AEG one, so now we have AEG and gas! Between this and the M1 you are quite a gunsmith.

Very cool. I don't suppose you'd be willing to print up another received group. I know I'd have to tweak it a bit to suit my purposes but it would vastly improved my G43 AE G project.

Very cool! This is indeed an excellent job! Also - from my own experience - the A&K and KA SVD AEG and a repro G43 stock marry quite well (I think the barrel is a little bit too long), otherwise is not a very big thing to adapt except re-positioning the trigger. I second 2nd Bat about the receiver/rear sight. Mine are quite off as they are build from scratch aluminium/brass with lots of putty.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback.
I didn't print the receiver myself, I had to pay around £150 for the parts to be printed by a third party (Weerg based in Italy). The parts aren't an exact copy of the real G43 either: they had to be made wider and a little taller to squeeze the existing airsoft parts in. Took a lot of sanding and fettling to get everything working correctly!

Pity as an affordable received group, read site and perhaps front stock band would be awesome. Perhaps a worthwhile project for someone with a 3D printer?
