OK, this thread is long over due. New acquisitions? Post 'em all! They have to do with airsoft or reenacting (ok the odd 'hey I got a new computer' post will be accepted ). Weather it be the new chest rig you got or a mint trench knife you picked up for dirt cheap, I want to see it. I have one stipulation for this thread: Pics or it didnt happen. Post what you have gotten but pics better follow shortly thereafter otherwise there will be swift retribution! ;D I will kick it off. Today I got a new Battledress set from a guy here in town. Sorry for the crappy quality of the pics. Now all I need is webbing items as well as a period weapon. Click

Heres my new Russian M23 Pionner Chest rig. I also got from the local gun show. Russian AK74 pouch and a AKM pouch. Behind the pouches is an orginal French shirt from Vietnam, which the NVA copied these shirts for their unifroms. I traded an Iragi AK rig for it.

Got this a few weeks ago from one of the members here on the forum. It's the only thing I've gotten recently that's really worth mentioning. Also came with a verticle forward grip, a 420rd mag, and a custom drum mag.

Picked up 13 M14 single mag pouches for $.99 a piece and a WWII E-tool carrier for $5.00 Whoa, nice find, excellent price! I just picked up a Webley .455 mkVI holster from Pacific Canvas and Leather, I am very pleased with the quality. (Now to break it in, maybe run over it with the car a couple times...)

Post on the battlesim forum already, but oh well: The jacket is a M1884 converted to officer's use. Almost all the officers who went to Cuba had these. The belt is a repro Mills shotgun shell belt. The overcoat is a M1885, the tin cup is the late 1870s model. The stuff around the jacket collar are a "Remember the Maine" pin, a "King and Country" toy soldier of COL Roosevelt as a Rough Rider, and the coin was cast from one of the props of the original USS OLympia, where Admiral Dewey snuffed out the Spanish fleet at Manila early in the war (the ship is intact today, displayed in Philly) The "USV" stands for United States Volunteers. Back in the day, the Army would accept units of people with usually little or no experience for an upcoming conflict. They'd train them, send them off to fight, then cut them loose immediately after the shooting stopped. That might sound bad, but it's what was expected back then. It was also common then that if you could gather a large group yourself for a volunteer unit, you'd be made their officer. That's pretty much how Leonard Wood and Theodore Roosevelt (he HATED being called "Teddy") got their ranks. Wood was a doctor and a Captain before the Spanish-American war started, and was President William McKinley's personal surgeon. He'd fought 'hostiles' (Apaches and other tribes) in the southwest and was a Medal of Honor awardee by then. Roosevelt was assistant Secretary of the Navy and everyone thought he was nuts resigning to take a second in command position in a cavalry outfit. To make things more confusing, there was also a regular army 1st Cavalry at the same time. The whole volunteer concept was out of favor by the time of WW1, when official National Guard units became more popular, to train part time soldiers to be used in times of crisis. One of Roosevelt's biggest regrets at the end of his life was Woodrow Wilson refused to let him fight in France at the head of another unit of volunteers as he had in 1898. FYI, a good trivia question about Roosevelt is that he was the only man to be president, a Medal of Honor awardee and a Nobel Prize awardee (for brokering several peace treaties, including the war between Russia and Japan). His MoH was awarded in 2001, for going up the San Juan heights in 1898. More info on the Rough Riders can be found here: www.spanamwar.com/rrhist.html
