I was in the states to visit family, and my grandfather gave me his '42 dated map case with contents. Apart from that, I picked up a '43 canteen cover and a WWI wire cutter pouch, and 5 sets of 2R leggings, and a Meat Can. And of course Garand parts for my conversion

Crime doesn't pay. YD you will of course get caught. Wow what a haul. How in the world did you manage to have it given to you? The BAR Handle is worth some serious scratch from what I've seen.

The BAR carrying handle I got from my unit's CO. He got it in a lot of stuff and already has 3 so he gave it to me. They're worth about 50 bucks and he knew it, he got it in a KILLER deal of a lot so I guess he passed the good luck around.
The rest I got from other guys in my unit. We have some members who have been collecting for AGES and at this event (a display/training event) they decided to bring in some boxes of stuff to give away. We lined up newest-oldest members in the unit and would take out what we wanted/needed. That way it helps guys fill in the gaps for items they need. Our unit is big on watching out for each other and helping a fellow YD'er before making a buck off of him. We have an unnoficial "sell it for what you paid for" policy.
I aint complainin ;D

Todays haul ;D '70 dated OG107 Sateen shirt , 2 complete pairs of Sun Wind and Dust goggles , a pair of Nomex flight gloves and an M67 canteen cover with a '66 dated canteen. this in one of the SWD goggles , the other box has the same contents, the funny thing is that both boxes say that they are manufactured in 1985 but the goggles have a 1971 date stamp on them the M67 canteen cover and '66 dated canteen another OG107 Sateen finally a Shotgun shell bandoleer , it could be a civilian hunting bando , but it does have the same hooks as a WWII gas mask bag

Got this stuff about two weeks ago but forgot to put 'em up. Pictured are Pair of ammo boots I got for $40(ish) I traded in my (I think they were Norwegian) DMS boots (which I paid 30-40 for) and got Ammo boot with hobnails and heal irons! Also a set of mess tins. They are most definitely post war( I believe they are from Belgian or danish. But they are aluminum rather than the tin (material used to make wartime dated ones) so they are safe to eat from Click

OK here is my latest acquisition. My family just bought a Smart Car!!! It gets 45 Miles to the Gallon and has the highest safety rating of any car on the road right now. Also before you go calling this car a pussy car or say I'm not a man for driving it ( I know thats what your thinking) I want to tell you what my other two cars are. We also own a 94 Chevy Suburban that gets 14 mpg and a 94 Bullet Proof S420 Mercedes Benz thats gets 14mpg on premium only. We need this car to go do little things like run to the store and applesauce like that, also my mom is currently enrolled in college as well and drives to and from Campus every day, its a 90 mile round trip 5 days a week! She used to drive the Mercedes but now is driving the Smart car to save on fuel. TommyGunner

Looks like the suburban is about to swallow up that little baby car. Where's the Crocidile Hunter's narrations when you need them?

So how long until the savings are more than the initial cost of the vehicle? As a first car, the savings are great, but if you already own a vehicle, it looks less and less appealing when you take into account that gas prices do tend to fluctuate from fairly low to extreme over a maybe, ten or twenty year span. I did the math once, it really takes a hell of a long time to make hybrid cars and the like worth it. Still a cool ride, sure is tiny.
