From a surplus store. Front Seam, D_bale, Schlueter, helmet, no straps. Came with MSA liner, new sweat band, '75 nape, no chinstrap. MSA is Mine Safety Appliance company. $10.00 - Yes TEN bucks.... Missing a lot of paint (2-coats) on the top with minor dents. No cracks or splits. There are at least 4 names on the inside, 3 are written with a magic marker. Close up of the D-bales, both appear to be original. No A-yokes, it was a infantry liner. I do not know how to tell if it is rayon or not. In the last 2.5 years of collecting WW2 this is the first D-bale I have held. ///ed///

But still...10 bucks! you normally see those Flaggrantly Wrong norwegian/danish/czeck/everything helmets go for that. Great find biged. I have an msa liner as well, from what I've heard they're a moderately rarer manufacturer (can't verify this). Here's mine which has been re-webbed and restored. The outside of my liner hasn't been painted over though On a slightly different note, I set up my lining so that the back of the sweat band is attatched to the nape strap. A vet gave me the advice and said it rides better when not using a chinstrap, something I definitely agree with.

Thanks for explaining the difference in bales. I have only seen pictures of D-bales and fixed bales and thought they were the same. I corrected the threads' title.
