Ok folks. 9.SS Shutze had asked me for some pics of the mortars we have down here in STL and KC. Well I figured instead of just sending him pictures I'll share with the whole group.
First up is the 60mm Mortar. This mortar actually shoots 40mm shells. We've managed to shoot nerf rounds out of this baby and it's absolutely fantastic! It has a working traversing mechanism and breaks down like a real mortar for transportation.
60MM mortar firing during our big "Invasion:Oklahoma" game
Next up is the Commando Mortar. This was fabricated after realizing the full size 60mm mortar is a pain in the butt to move around the field easily lol. I think 3 of these things are in existance at the present time. This mortar too uses 40mm shells to fire. And like the real commando mortar the carrying strap is marked to adjust elevation and an aiming stripe is painted on the body of the mortar.
Just note that I did NOT make any of these mortars so I do not know the internal workings of them. Credit goes to Allan of KC. I won't use his full name for PERSEC reasons. However, I do know it pretty much boils down to a firing pin in the bottom to strike the valve on the 40mm shell. The 60mm mortar is more complicated as there is a spring mechanism that can be compressed allowing the 40mm shell to fall out of the bottom.
If anyone has some specific questions about the internal workings I can try picking Allan's brain when I head to KC next month for their monthly game.
