For our up coming Galant Saber 3 game in June (Modern day scenario) we have a new AO in Washington state which includes a huge centralized field. It's actually marked on Geologic survey maps as a emergency landing strip. There is a great hall next to it. We are going to mark it off as runways with the great hall serving as a terminal. and have some vehicles and such parked at the opposite end with a few AA positions around it. The game will begin with a small unit of aggressors defending the airfield and terminal. The US main Force rangers will be laoded in deuce and halfs that will simulate aircraft and will do a night drop at dawn on the airfield. They will literally have to "stand up, hook up, and shuffle to the door." They will jump out the back do a PLF and then the truck will move and the next two will do the same until both trucks are empty and the troopers are scattered all about in the darkness. They will then have to move on their assigned objectives. Once secured the Marine contingent will be trucked into the primary objective fighjt off some counter attacks and by this time it will be light and breakfast will be served followed by the OP orders with the rest of the teams missions. We are requiring that the airborne troops attend an instrrcuction session the day before and that they all have a padded gun case and ruck sack. They will each have a red light to turn on if they are KIA. To simulate the advantage of contemporary night vision/ thermal sites the aggressors will all have a green lumi light on their web gear where the US troops will not.
We are hoping to have at least 30 or 40 jumpers. The event will attrack well over 200 players from the NWest

I want to have a giant atlantic wall...and 8 Tiger I's...Id settle for a bunch of SS units...Id say about 400 guys...and then we surround the Allied guys and take them to our SS POW camp! But none of the other Units can fight until all the allies are captured ;D...Please dont base Scenarios around 1 unit, that just ruins the beauty of the sport. Dont take me as an ass, (I have my moments.) but asking for something like that to happen would be kinda unfair to other units. They didnt park the higgins boats and tell the Germans to "Wait a sec" because the airborne didnt destroy all the guns . Remember Everyone should have a roll in a scenario, and each should be just as equal as the next unit. My $0.02 Schutze

No,
1.) Keep your little statements to yourself. 2.) Im not challenging who knows more about the 82nd not carrying crickets, well just say you win, But an event that limits the use of certain units will not attract 100 people "at least". Lets not make this a Flame war...

My post shouldn't have been in this thread as it was discussion about a D-Day scenario and our event is strictly modern but it demonstrates what could be done in terms of creating a sense of scattered troops simulating a night drop. Having to orient yourself and rally sufficient troops to take various objectives. I'm sure if it goes well we'll replicate it for a WW2 event. I worry a bit about guys jumping out of a vehicle at night even though the pasture is very soft and the vehicles won't be moving very fast.
If we have enough of them we might use ambulances as the drop is less pronounced and you can simulate the inside of a C-47 a little better Red light "Stand Up" Hook Up, Shuffle to the Door" Go Go Go!"
Should be fun. Not all the 101st had crickets and there were a variety of styles used. It was a clever idea. I have a map from West Point after action study that shwos wehere almost all of the sticks from D-Day actually landed based on survivors after action reports. They were literally scattered all over Normandy. Very few landed where they were supposed to.

If anyone wants it I shrunk it down and scanned it. I can send it to them as a downloadable file (I think) You could then print it on your own printer.
