bolt problem, i have heard of the barrel wobbling, but never a bolt problem, my friend down the street has had his TM thompson for about a year or so now, and his barrel just started to wobble, nothing wrong with the bolt

Hey that same thing happened to mine, infact it 4 days before an event the freakin bolt came off entirely, so I took the gun appart and rea-atached to bolt by screwing it in, but I covered to screw with super glue and not a problem since.

This is my second M1A1 Thompson. I like it and it fires beautifully. But I have to take exception to the barrel problem. Everyone that I have talked to that bought one complained that out of the box the barrel was wobbly. The situation is this; the gun is assembled by hand in Japan and the screws are loose. To solve this you take the screws out drop in a few drops of loctite and screw them in tightly with a snug fitting flat-tip. I have never had a problem with barrel wobble since them.
The Thompson is far better than the carbine in the fact that you have to cock it everytime you use it. It is no good in a fire fight...been there done that. My M1A1 shoots 285 out of the box while my former Carbine was pushing 250 with .34 grain 8mm pellets. You can only buy the 50$ magazines for the Carbine "IF" you can find them. My Thompson will work in warm hot or cold weather. My Carbine worked best when it was 100 outside. It shutdown gas wise below 65 degrees.
Gas cans had to be carried in a bag that would hold them. My batteries could be carried in 5 Cell pouches. My Thompson magazines were 30$ each and held 190 rounds while my Super Hi-Caps carried 500rnds and were 34$ and my low caps carried 60rnds and were 24$.
Don't get me wrong...the carbine is a nice gun and offers a lot if you have others with guns that are auto and truly semi auto. But if you are going to get something that can give you the covering fire you need to go from one hole to the next get the Thompson.......or buy a garand for 200$ more.
