After the death of my H&K USP (Sniffle ) I went to the sporting goods store looking for a replacement. Bent on finding a WWII gun I finally found a suitable candidate. It was a spring Tanfoglio Witness 1911. I bought it as well as two extra magazines.
I got it home and opened it up, and holy crap, was it a farb fest! Warnings all carved into the sides and stickers on the front slide and a silver hammer, trigger, and chamber. A little filing and model paint took care of that. Now I was ready to put this baby to the test.
I fired at 10, 15 and 20' away at a target as big as a small tissue box. The BB hit the top edge every time. On the box it said .4 Joules energy. WOO PARTY! ! I took it upon myself to shoot myself in the leg with it to really test the power of this baby. One shot at point blank left a welt the size of a dime on my leg.. ...
Pros:
Good FPS (about 300 fps with .2g bbs)
nice wall hanger (I'm sure she'll hold up in the field too )
Made by a real firearms manufacturer ( They ought to know something about guns, right?)
No gas or batteries
Gun doesn't cost much ($20) and neither do mags($10 for 2)
Cons:
Mags have a button on the top releasing the bbs, causing somewhat of a problem in the pouch...
Needs outer modification before it can be passed of as an M1911
Looks like it might break if you sneeze on it...
Hand grips are cheap looking pieces of junk
Shoots too high
All in all, it's a great sidearm for being a cheap springer, and for what it costs, it's a steal. I'll post a thread of what you need to modify, and how. Change the hang grips, paint it, and you have something that is a great combat piece, or just a holster filler. I give it a 9 out of 10. I predict this little honey will soon have the airsofters shouting "MAMA MIA! It's a Tanfoglio!" ;D

Here's how you can modify your 1911
