COD 2 is out now and after playing it for a couple days now I'm giving it a huge thumbs up. COD, 1 and 2 in my opinion is the perfect balance of fun, action and realism. It runs super smooth even on an older computer and is action packed.
It is definetly not the most realistic. Red Orchestra probably takes that prize. But RO has its faults. Mainly I find the controls clunky in RO. for example if you are lying on the ground with a MG deployed and you need to get up in a hurry you can't just pres the Jump button, You have to press the deploy button then prone button, and of course the deply button is different than the shoot from the hip button. The chances of getting it right under stress is very low. The Tanks and others vehicles in RO are great!!
Brothers in Arms (road to hill 30 or earned in blood) are both great, but the multiplayer isn't so good. and the wandering sights when aiming gets annoying.
I also saw COD2 running on an X BOX 360 (although not available yet)and it looked exactly the same as the PC version. COD2 is a must have for the WWII FPS fan.

We will be adding a CoD2 server the the [AGS] Acme Gaming Society family of games this weekend. Check us out at www.acmegamingsociety.comWe currently host BF2, but will be turning a dead DoD:S server into the CoD2 server. Love to have some of my fellow Airsoft brothers killing pixels with us! -G

i was kinda disappointed with dods, they really scrued the Garand. it's a long way form "the gun that won the war."
1. It don't less damage then a 6mm BB from 200 feet. 2. it's now a True semi. put this together and you got a weapon that kills with 2 shot 95% of the time and 3 shots 4% of the time, and lastly 1 shot 1% of the time, and with the slow rate of fire most weapons will kill you long before you get that second shot.
but the MG's rule tho. bet MG's in a game...

Yeah DoD:S was a major dissapointment-
We waited sooo long with so much hype to be let down in the end- but the fact of the matter is that they just made the the same game 'prettier' and time has really just passed DoD by- it was a lot of fun in 2000, 2001....but in 2003 When CoD came out and all the games since, Day of Defeat just couldn't compete.
I look forward to meeting you on the 'cyber' battlefield there Schmitty!

normal dod is actually still good,(more people play it then Source) the guns in normal dod are actually good at killing, 1 shot one kill with the Garand is the norm, the BAR is deadly.
in source you have to actually hit people like 4 times with most guns. the best weapon in the game (except for the mgs) are the Carbine but you only get 3 mags for it..

Well I found the AGS server no problem but so far every time I checked there was nobody there. Maybe we should schedule a WW2 airsoft assoc. game?

Sounds good Schmitty! Only 1 or 2 of us has it so far in the group- I plan to pick it up tomorrow......right after I ship a certain M1 Garand off Anyway, most of the group plays on our BF2 server but I know myself and maybe 4 or 5 of us plan to get the CoD2 box filled and popular this week, so we'd love the help! Stop by the forums and register and there should be some news about it there......when I get a chance to post it that is www.acmegamingsociety.com-G

Picked my copy up yesterday- So far........... I'm a bit disappointed- so far many of the maps are all the same as CoD/CoD UO. One of the things I look for in a new sequel to a game is fresh new maps to play- Admittedly, I play many if not all games for the online, multiplayer experience, so other than the Afrika levels, and I haven't gotten to the Russian multiplayer maps yet, these are the same old maps- albeit very popular maps, from the first series of CoD with the new prettier graphics included as well as a couple more 'tweaks' per map- a wall here, a gun emplacement there- but no real significant "we worked our butts off to bring you a new gaming experience" level of effort seems to be apparent, at least not to me as yet. Oh and the 'repackaging' of Dawnville as 'St. Mere Eglise' is ...well...lame. We all knew it as Dawnville, or the night version 'Burnville' and the fact that the map is now smaller than the original, but cleverly disguised under a new name seems contrived. At least when I took a poke at custom map making and used Dawnville as the basis, I 'franophiled' the name to D'onville All this was poking around our [AGS] game server waiting on my friend Schmitty to show up lol so I haven't had a chance to actually 'engage the enemy' and see how the new game responds, but so far based on my hope and expectations for new content, I have been somewhat let down. -More to come -G

I did check many times at the AGS server and it was always empty, I even ran around by myself for 30 minutes exploring. I'll try again tonight. You're right about the maps, but it didn't bother me because I know it won't be long before we see some custom maps. And in a way I was happy to see some of the old favorites re-invented (Brecourt in particular). How about the single player, did you try that yet?

Yes sir, I get home around 3 your time and have a chance to get in front of the PC around 6 PST-
My MSN (If you have that) is Gu1nn3ss@hotmail.com so if I'm not actually in the server, which I should be, you can IM me there.
Yes I have started the single player campaigns, In mother Russia of course, based on the order of countries, I'm thinking the Point Du Hoc level is obviously the 'Piece de resistance' of the whole game.
Yeah, I always enjoyed Brecourt, But I would have preferred that they expand the maps just a little bit to make them more interesting, but that's just me- the new lighting effects should make this version better because it appears that it will be a bit more difficult to camp at one end and pick players off at the other end.
See ya tonight!

On a side note, I don't PC game alot due to my crappy old HP, LOL, but I do play these on PS2 alot..alot... and I have COD: fh and just got COD2: big red 1 and I must say, the gameplay and graphics are very nice, the eviro's are detailed as well as the weapons. One thing I like is the fact that you can't pick up a bunch of health and carry it and use it as you need. You only get enough to heal you fully, and no more.
For a Ps2 game, it kicks butt!! One game that's nice is Killzone( got some ww2 parallels in a futuristic sort of way :)O

I wasn't a big fan of finest hour, it seems like the british campaign isn't complete, becuase brits only have like 4 levels, where American and Russian both have like 12. But CoD: Big Red One is a friggen amazing game. Multiplayer is outta this world on xbox live. I just got the game and xbox live yesterday, so I'm only on operation husky. What's nice is that instead of American/russian/british against german like all the other cod games, this is American/ French against German/ Italian, and its somtimes american against french. I don't like being french though, their guns suck!

Well first you need the "Deposit all payroll checks directly into Guinness's bank account" program Actually I play Call of Duty 2 solely because I cannot find my key for CoD so I cannot re-install COD and CoDUO- So if you do not already have a copy of CoD 2 for your PC then get on it!! ;D -G

AADan: you should be able to run COD2 on your system, I have a friend with lower specs that plays all the time, just keep the grapics turned down.
Pvt Mills: You got something against the xbox? according to nearly every review of games that are available for PS2 and Xbox, the Xbox almost always has the graphics and performance edge, Anyway I like them both.
This thread was originally about COD2 for the PC so when we talk about playing online I assume that's what we're speaking of. (not the same game as COD2: The big red one)
Guinness and I had a head to head COD2 match once (great fun) Guinness you name the server and the time and let's try to set up another game and hopefully others here will join in.
I was playing Red Orchestra about a week ago and ran into Pvt. Pile who used to post here a lot, We ended up having a lengthy airsoft disscusion while fighting and arroused lots of interest from other players.

ok, I usually play on the 'Bilco's Parlor' servers at: 70.86.71.76:28960 CoD2 'modded' 70.86.159.148:28960 CoD2 'stock' It's a Dallas server so pings should be pretty good all around, they usually have players from England, so like I said latency shouldn't be a factor. AAD, like Schmitty said, you should be bale to play with your rig- What night works as 'carnage fiesta' night for ya'll? Comcast has been jacking up my connection lately but I had a nice long talk with them today and used words like "DSL" and "Not paying for 56k dialup service" and "I expect a months credit" so hopefully they get their shi* sorted and I can play again in the next day or so -G
