Just curious about something. We all waited in great anticipation for the Top MP40 to be released. Many people suggested it was the release that would put WWII airsoft on the map. Finally the axis would have something to counter the Thompson. But, since its release I have heard nothing about people using or buying them. I have one and thought that although expensive, it was a great weapon and worked very well. But I admit, I have never used it in a game prefering the custom MP40 I made because it holds 350 BB's and shoots a little further/harder. Making a high cap for the Top gun would be fairly easy though (marui Uzi highcap + Top magazine) Capt. Zak: you mentioned yours being a $450 paper weight. Did it break? or are you just not happy with its performance? How many others bought them and what has your experience with it been? Schmitty

Hey Schmitty. I refered to mine as a $450.00 paper weight because it currently it is not operating. When I received my TOP MP40 it fired great right out of the box. Then I get to my first event with it and it craps out. But I learned a few things.
1. By having the hop up all the way off the barrel gets flooded with bb's causing the gun to jam.
2. There are a few screws in the gun that, when loose, cause the gun's fps to really take a beating.
3. The piston system that TOP uses is just plain crap. There is an upgrade coming out that I can't wait to buy!

Personally i think custom aeg is the way to go, the top is just way too finicky. mine striped its gears after about 20 mags. I have the new gears now, but im not excited enough to install them. This new gearbox by PGC will make a difference tho. but it mill turn it into a 900 dollar gun. -Gordak

prefering the custom MP40 I made because it holds 350 BB'sSchmitty why do u use hi-caps? to me it takes away realism and is funner when using standard mags cause there is more tactics involved instead of just laying down on the trigger and spraying 100 round bursts people have to move more to get shots.

some people use High caps cause its cheaper to buy one clip, than several standard.
I cant afford to buy 6 thompson clips now, so I'll use my Hi-cap till I can.

it's weird, In Denmark almost all play some type of Paint ball airsoft. where they run around with paint ball masks, 600rd hicaps and 500fps m4's
but here in Norway, it's almost a taboo to use hicaps.(only Mg's are allowed to use them) and in fact when it comes to ww2 airsoft, the AEG's Thompson/MP40 are only allowed to have 30rd in the clip, to even out the bolt action rifles and semi action Garand and Carbine.
Kinda sucks to have a 8 round Garand against a 70rd Mp40,
but in non ww2 airsoft we use normal 50-70rd lowcaps. because unlike ww2, everybody have 60rounds.

Gunfreak I totaly agree with you. I would prefer to play with ammo and fps limitations such as: lo caps and under 300 fps for sub-machine guns, 400 fps for MG's and rifles.
The trouble is where I play most of the time, Almost everybody has multiple high caps, and many have box mags for G-3's and M4's that hold 2000+ bb's. In order to be competitive you have to use high caps.

thats nice about a small country like Norway, ther's only like 500 organised player's here(mostly beacuse airsoft was ilegal here up to 2001) and of those 500, almost 400 are under NAA(norwegian airsoft association) witch has fps restriction and Hicap restrection.. only mg's can have hicaps. and only REAL mg's count, no M4 with boxmag..

No. The Asahi uses an air-fed mag, meaning your high pressure gas has two purposes: the air passes through the (airtight) magazine to feed the next BB into the chamber, and then that same air is used to shoot the bb. Like this: www.classicairsoft.net/images/bv.htmHere's a picture of the bottom of the BV unit. www.classicairsoft.net/images/MP40/102_0246.JPGand a picture of the top of the magazine. www.classicairsoft.net/images/MP40/102_0247.JPG. You *could* route the pressurized gas *around* the magazine (by connecting the "small" port to the "large" one) - but that leaves you with no way to feed a BB into the chamber. If you used a spring fed magazine that wasn't airtight, when you pulled the trigger, all you'd get is gas rushing out the small port, venting to atmosphere. The secret to operation is to have the gas venting from the "small" port to the "large" port *and* to have BBs in between the two. schmitty: I disagree that you *must* go loaded to the gills to be "competitive"... For the last year or so, I have routinely taken the field with a Sun Project M40A1 (420 with .25s) and 2x APS-2 mags, my standard reloading tube, and a small bag of .25s, .30s, or .36g BBs, depending on how ugly the wind is. I'll use the .36's if it's really windy, and I won't be able to make a long shot anyway...) There's a sweet feeling when you're hunkered behind a logwall, with a 2" wide x 5" high gap to shoot through, and the guy with the G36 and C-mag is hosing down the whole area, hoping to get a lucky shot, and you shoot him in the head after one or two "windage" shots. (and can pick which head you want to hit *evil grin*) I think the true proof in the pudding is that a full 20% of our "regular" players are using some form of Bolt-action or semi auto rifle in the 400-500 FPS range as their "favorite" gun...and I think it's because there were 2-3 of us that decided that "Bolt Actions are too cool for school", and then went out and showed that you don't need 200 rounds per kill. 'course, on the other hand, there are times when I'm out maneuvered and outgunned... Dying in those situations is my own fault.
