Ok, first let me say that you guys are my heros!! All of you! that means you and you and you and you and.....ok I'll stop I have been 'collecting' airsoft since around the turn of the century..........2000 of course But I'm in Colorado so there wasn't much available locally for a place to play- now there is, but they are still pretty much geared towards the fully tricked out M4 or MP5 crowd- and I've never been much into that scene. So the other night I'm surfing around on Arnies forums and the COASG forums, and I run across the 2nd Rangers site which leads me here! Feels like Ive died and gone to heaven!! 1st I find out my ultimate fantasy has already been done successfully by another- switching the Marushin M1 Carbine into a para stock! 2nd, I find out that there is a successful WWII impression Airsoft team out there, and 3rd, and this is a bonus, that you can convert the Hudson M3A1 Grease gun into an AEG!!!! I had all three in Arnies sell/swap forums looking to trade! yikes!! I almost let these guns go!!! Jeezopetes! WWII airsoft nirvana!! Now correct me if I am wrong, but havent I seen Gordak's smiling face on some WWII reenactment sites?? So, now that I've humbled myself and given props to the esteemed WW2 Airsoft crew, let the questions commence! -Is there anything special about the para stock, or can I just find a repro or used one on eBay or whatever and use that? -Was the switch straight forward or did you need to fabricate parts to make it work? -On the GreaseGun-to-AEG front, I have two of the 'original' versions, Is there a parts list to accomplish the conversion available at all? -Does anybody 'gunsmith' this in the group that I could perhaps ship them my weapons and a wad of cash to perform the frankenstein-like operation? I actually don't need two of them, so I would be willing to sacrifice one to the gods of airsoft miracles if it will assist the cause So....I beseech you, oh gods of WWII Airsoft, smile down upon this humble servant and grant the knowledge of all that is holy and just and right.....well ok, maybe just give me the goods on how to be as cool as you guys and trick my weapons out! ;D OBTW, I have a Hudson M1 Garand Dummy replica that I would like to sell/trade to get a Marushin M1 GBB- Yeah, I know its not exactly a 'even' trade, but Its another thing I'm willing to sacrifice- For those that don't know the Hudson is a full weight/ full metal replica of the Garand- made in 1988 and in amazing condition, no barrel plug like the current ones.

Welcome aboard!!!
too many questions for me to answer tonight,
That is a SWEET garand, too bad it cant shoot bbs!!
I used a P90 to make my m3a1 aeg other people used other gearboxes, its been done atleast 5 times all over the world, 2 of us in this group.
The m1a1 carbine requires a demmel tool to cut some room in the stock, then there is part of the trigger asembly that you either need to cut or modify the stock further to fit. I recomend cutting it, because it looks better.

Welcome Guiness. I also did the grease gun aeg conversion a while back and I have to say it's one of my favourite weapons to use. It's been a while but here is what I recall using: Hudson m3a1 body. TM p90 gearbox (version 6), m4 hop up, cylinder head and nozzle from tm m4, Any TM aeg barrel, Real m3 magazine with thompson hi-cap internals, 1500 mah aug type 9.6v battery. trigger switch relay and fuse. This is not the only way to do it but this is how I did it. I had to widen the bottom cover to fit the motor inside. It may be possible to fit a modified ak gearbox inside without changing the cover. Here are some pictures that may help. Also I have an M1a1 para folding stock. It's a reproduction. You can buy these for about $125.I may be interested in trading stuff. Schmitty Schmitty

Gordak, Schmitty, Thanks so much for your repsonse! Schmitty, I have 2 of the 'original' Hudson M3 Airsoft gas guns, did you use the airsoft gun or the Hudson PFC cap guns as your source? I dont know if it makes any difference. What did you do for the mags? There is no way I could accomplish this with my experience though, so I'm searching all my Airsoft connections for someone wanting to take on a 'project' I have no problem with fitting metal slides, recoil springs or valves, this is way out of my league- Maybe my friends over at AEX....I hope Now as for the M1 Carbine, I have been watching eBay for the repro stocks for a while now and havent seen any come by, real ones for 300+ yes, but not the Baretta's- The stock switch I think I could accomplish though, if its just a dremel here and a snip there. Anyway, thanks again guys! you all have inspired me to keep these weapons and give them a new lease on life! I need to contact my old buddy Punchy and see if he's interested in my Garand modelgun so I can get the Marushin Garand......and the Marushin M2 Carbine!! -G

Guiness (Island brew?): I used the gas powered, BB shooting Hudson grease gun as the base. I used a real M3 magazine and TM thompson hi cap internals for the guns magazine. It holds about 450 BB's.
How much do you want for the Garand? Are you interested in trading. I have a m1a1 carbine folding stock, real m3 mag, Marushin m1 carbine with extra mags.
I can't remember where I bought the folding carbine stock but it was from an ad in shotgun news (available on most news stands).

I'd like to correct the record, here. Forgive me, my new friend Guiness, but I get a bit "Tetchy" when I see things written about Colorado Airsoft that are, well, pretty much Patently Untrue... Not your fault at all...we had a member start a big flamewar on Arnies when we started discussing our "Hicap Limit" proposal a few weeks back...so it's a sore spot at the moment... Apologies in advance. ...But I'm in Colorado so there wasn't much available locally for a place to play- now there is ...has been for 5 years...just very very VERY hard to find, thanks to Google not indexing the EZboard that the original webmaster was using...but we're feeling much better now... HA! That just made my day... ColoradoAirsoft is dedicated exclusively to MilSim (it's on Page 1 of our ruleset, in the Mission Statement, actually), and, while trying not to sound like a bunch of priks, we gently try to ridicule those "hang as much off the M4 as you can" guys into playing with a "nekkid" gun. Generally, it works. The most "tricked out" gun we have in the community is an AK with a GP30 slung underneath... Additionally, WWII Airsofting has always been a strong interest, but the lack of affordable, SKIRMISHABLE weapons has been a problem. This past year, there have been a number of us who have decided to say "screw it", and have taken the field with Bolt Action M40's and VSRs as "Ersatz Springfields"...and have done pretty well... At the moment, one of the local teams is outfitting as a USGI unit (undecided which one just yet...) with 2 Garands, a Thompson, a Grease Gun, 2 VSRs (Ersatz Springfields), an M-16 (Ersatz BAR) and an Asahi M249 (Ersatz .30 cal.), Should be interesting... Guinness...when you get out to a game (You're coming on the 30th to Dragonman's, **right**? :evil grin: ) Look for the guys from Hell's Knights...We're always keeping an eye out for the best of the best of the best...Mature, dedicated players who are all over MilSim... Anyway, about the Grease Gun conversion...we definitely have the talented people to handle that locally...and probably will have quite a few more to convert for people if the first one goes well.

JB! No harm no foul man- I was only speaking from the times I have been at paintball adventures and observed teams playing Airsoft there- I didn't even know about the 618rampart field until this past week reading the COASG forums, and your right I haven't been to a game yet...Well for two reasons, I don't have an AEG, as you have seen, mostly pistols and I don't yet have the WWII uniform to back up my M1 Carbine.....but I will soon. And honestly, Since I have been interested in Airsoft since around 2000, its been a while since I did a search on airsoft+colorado. Thats how I found coloradoairsoft.org in the first place! And speaking of that, Schmitty the Garand that I have is a Hudson Modelgun, so it takes down and functions exactly like a real steel, except for actually shooting Its in great shape, and has hardwood furniture unlike the lightweight wood used on the M1 Carbines (Although M1 Carbine wood is still nice) I am selling it so I can purchase the Marushin M1 Garand, so I am looking for $500 or $600 for it- They sell on eBay and modelguns.co.uk/m1garand.htm for $1000+. I will take somemore pictures of it tomorrow and post them here. However if I am reading your msg correctly, it looks like you have the paratroop stock and a Marushin M1 Carbine, yes? if you were to switch the Parastock onto the Carbine, I would trade you the Garand for that- 'cuz I'm afraid I will end up with a butchered $150 dollar folding stock and a previously working carbine in pieces in my basement -G

N'worries! Airsoft at Paintball Adventures, huh? That's curious, because we've only ever played there one time as a group... Interesting how there seem to be a half dozen different "groups" of Airsofters in Colorado, that don't really know about each other... Is your Hudson a PFC gun, or a straight model gun (all the action, none of the noise) Looks like we have *two* Marushin Garands coming in on Monday or Tuesday... *big ass grin*

Yes, I am offering to trade my Marushin m1 carbine + folding m1a1 stock, 3 magazines, scope mount, 2 bags of 8mm ammo (one .34 and the other .45) with its original box and instructions etc. I would trade this directly for your Hudson dummy Garand, However if you want me to do the stock conversion on the carbine you'll have to sweeten the pot. How about throwing in one of the M3a1 grease gun bodys? You can keep its magazine and internals (bolt, barrel etc..). If you do decide to do the aeg conversion you won't need 2. I'll also throw in a real grease gun mag. (you'll need it if you do the aeg conversion). I don't doubt that the Hudson garand is (or was) worth what you say, but the Marushin has probably brought its price down a fair bit. Let me know what you think. Schmitty

Well Schmitty my friend, it sounds like the wheels of commerce have stopped in front of our houses today and said 'Let's make a Deal!" ;D I would be happy to have one of the Hudson M3A1 Grease Guns accompany his M1Garand brother into your arsenal! I will keep the M3 mag if you don't need it, but I would prefer to ship the gun itself complete with it's 'guts' if that is ok- I don't want to risk damaging anything when removing the workings. I also don't needa scope mount, so you can keep that as well if you have aneed for it. I may either be sending the other grease gun to AEX or my new friends rt here in Colorado COASG to perfom the AEG conversion. Here are some pics I did this AM of the Garand etc- Top: MGC M1 Carbine PFC ModelGun, Bottom: Hudson M1 Garand Modelgun 6mm Marushin M1 Carbine, Hudson M3A1 Grease Gun, Hudson M1 Garand, Tanaka Works P08 Luger, WA 1911 .45 Stock and front detail- Thought that was a cool pic Sure hope the neighbor wasn't looking out his window then I am going to look at a 'reasonably priced' gun case to ship the Garand in- I don't have the orig. box and don't want to ship it without some sort of protection-. -G

M1a1 Carbine finished. This was a fairly quick and easy job. I would recommend anyone who wants a paratrooper carbine take the plunge and give it a try. All you realy need is a hack saw (or cut off wheel) to cut off a small section of the guns inner reciever, and some method of removing a little wood from inside the stock a dremel with sanding bands works best but you could do it with a knife or chisel. I test fired the gun this morning and it works great Schmitty

Nice!! Ok, so I'm the hold up in this operation- I won't be able to get a hard case and ship her (The Garand) out til early next week- but I promise I will do it on Monday or Tuesday and send the boxed M3A1 with it. I will call you Tuesday or as soon as I have shipped them with the tracking info. Sorry, but I'm glad 'ol betsy is going to a good home You wont be dissapointed- But the waiting is killing me!! So I couldn't help but peek around your room there at the lovely pieces on display- Let me see how close I am- -Shoei MG42 -Hudson M3A1 (well DUHHH ) but is that the AEG or Gas or the PFC blank gun? -Broomhandle Mauser- Airsoft or PFC, I have a PFC myself -I see one TOP MP40, is that a second one or perhaps an Asahi/Marushin MP40 in the background? -Is that the stock of a MP44 I see? and a Thompson 1928? -Whats the mg on the tripod? Do you have all the same stuff as Gordak or does your equipment list offset his? -G

Post by schmitty on Oct 25, 2005 0:16:31 GMT -5
You know your stuff. 1) Echigoya MG42 AEG based on shoei gun 2) Grease gun aeg 3) Marushin broomhandle mauser (airsoft) 4) Top MP40 (the one on the log) 5) custom mp40 aeg made from marushin cap gun and TM AK gearbox, I made that about a year before the Top aeg was released. 6) Shoei MP44 aeg 7) TM thompsom m1928 (pretty impressive you got the last 2 from that picture) 8) the Tripod mounted gun is a ZB37 (Czech) Not airsoft.
I think Gordak and I have a lot of the same stuff but I'd bet he has more uniforms and other gear. He also has a lot of external gas powered guns where I more or less stick to electrics.

Lol thank you- The m1928 has the different rear sight than the M1A1 where the M1A1 has a point to it, the 1928 is flat and more rectangular to accommodate the flip-up windage sight As well the 1928 has the ridge down the receiver end there where the M1A1 is flat and just has the 'button'. The MP44 stock is pretty unique and recognizable I had the Asahi/Marushin MP40 external air rig gun myself, so its much the same as the current cap gun version- the TOP's are readily identifiable by the brown 'bakelite' grips. Its very good to see other WWII geeks with toys! Back 'in the day' when I was growing up, I used to order modelguns from 'The Collectors Armoury' in Alexandria VA., from ads in the back of Playboy, of all places- (Yeah, I did just read them for the articles ;D ) anyway, back then (the late 70's) they used to sell the 1911 .45's and Lugers for like $60 bucks, and then the M1 Carbines and Thompsons and MP40's would go for like $300 max- They were full metal, full weight replicas like the M1 Garand and MGC M1 Carbine I have today- (...well had in the case of the Garand lol) none of this plastic stuff- but they weren't Airsoft then either Then a bit later in the early/Mid Eighties, Daisy started selling 'softair' guns- I had a Luger, a Python, a sweet Uzi that I had up until my son was born in '92 and ended up trashing it lol. And a sweet mini14 Ruger with a folding stock- those were my first introduction to what we now know as 'Airsoft' Anyway, its great to find a group of 'enthusiasts' like myself, that while they may not be as old as me certainly share my enjoyment of 'playing war' -G

I recall going to a local hobby shop in the late 70's with my Dad who was collecting Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox toys (I was around 8 years old) and seeing Japanese model guns that where all metal some fired caps and some of them fired plastic BB's. They where kits you had to build and they where quite expensive at around $30-40 (seemed unobtainable at the time). That must have been the very beginning of airsoft.
Regarding the box: please don't go and buy a gun case just to ship the garand.I don't want you to have to spend anymore money and I actually think shipping a gun inside a gun case might draw more attention to it and may cause problems. Maybe just ask at a gun shop or music store if they have a cardboard box you can have. or try a "ups store" type of place.
Capt Zak: just for the record, my e-mail and phone number where already posted under "regional contacts" by Gordak so I didn't see any harm in posting them again, but I know you are just looking out for our own security so thanks.

Yes thank you Zak! I appreciate it, but I work for da 'gubment, so if someone was to 'try anything' .....vee haff vays to deal wiss dat And Schmitty, thanks- I will do just that- however, I think I can find a bushmaster for less than $20 bucks, so if I don't find the cardboard box, I will still do that- just look at it as a 'pay it forward' kind of thing- I'm hoping we have the beginnings of a long friendship/relationship here between the Northwest and Rocky Mountian regions! And I'm sure that my local 'boys jonathonbarton and his crew want to establish good relations with other WWII Airsoft groups as well! (heh heh there I go 'speaking' for ya again Jon! ) -edit- didnt realize til I got your PM Schmitty that you are in the PacNorthWest- for some reason I thought you were in the great lakes region -G

It's great to hear background on folks interest and initial introduction to airsoft. I was training officer at the 1st brigades Recondo school at Ft Lewis in the 70s (detached from the 2nd Ranger Bn while recovering from knee surgery) I thought using BB guns would enhance the training. The Training Aid department took left over daisy lever action guns (from the vietnam era quick kill program) and cut the lever off replacing it with a resin pistol grip. They also added a front hand guard and an upper handle so they looked somewhat like an M-16. The cadre I'm emabrrassed to admit used crossman CO2 powered semi automatics and LARC fully automatic BB guns which wasn't at all fair but gave the troopers a sense of being intensely ambushed. The recondo students wore camouflaged fencing masks a number of which I still have. (The army was throwing them out when they went to lazer Miles system)
I thought at the time how cool it would be if anyone built BB guns that looked and functioned like a real M-16 and AK. I discovered in the early 80s that replica soft air BB guns were made in Japan and bought several. I was out of the army by then having retired medically in 1977. These were either gas powered or used ejecting shells and were spring powered. They were both in my estimation unworkable as skirmish weapons and I more or less gave up on it.
Years later my son (then 14 discovered airsoft AEGs and I bought a Thompson) It exceeded my expectatioons dramatically and he and I were hooked. As you can tell Guiness you're certainly not the oldest enthusiast in this group. I still want to see more Mil reenactment aspects for airsoft and it has come full circle from my fantasy back in the 70s.

My introduction to Airsoft was quite a bit more recent... It came from a link to the Unconventional-Airsoft "Hand Signals" page that someone in my Car Club (Diamon Star Motors - I owned a '90 Talon AWD at the time) After laughing my tukus off, I thought, "Heeeeeeyyyy, Wait just a doggone minute. Just exactly what *is* Airsoft, and what makes this "unconventional", Huh?... So I went to the home page of the website, and looked around a bit, then went to Arnies, where he had that awesome photo gallery... I clearly recall posting (to my livejournal) a picture of 5 guys stacked up in 'BlackTac" just like the old game startup "wallpaper" in Counterstrike (which I was the Game Du Jour for me at the time). I ordered my first Airsoft gun off Ebay the next day. That wasn't the beginning of it, though... In my middle teens, around 1985, My friends and I collected model guns that shot the orange "mushroom" shaped pellets. My favorite was the Automag... We'd take them out every hallowe'en and have a huge shootemup game in the neighborhood after all the 'littler' kids had gone home for the night... Wish we still could do that in the neighborhood on Hallowe'en night...I have much nicer toy guns now...

I think we are officially off topic now but I would be willing to travel some for a national ww2 event. Heck I just gave John Lu 300-500.00 for entry plus expenses to play Irene 3. However what about standards. My group varies on standards of uniforms quite a bit from this orginization...And we vary quite a bit on being more stringent on use of weapons and modes of fire. There would be some coordination needed. I am sure we could work through it though. My team Team Blackjack just ran a succesful Operation Urgent Gambit at a field in Dalton, GA had 70 people 2 came from as far away as MO. We had great feedback on game play scenario scripting and props. Let me know if we could help in orginizing this.

Gordak: I might just do that (make it shoot that is). I'll have to wait untill I see it and take some measurments, I'm also getting several projects behind now though. I still have that MG34 (almost finished). Lanchester (barely started). and if I'm getting another grease gun than there's that too!! BTW if I do make another M3a1 aeg I will probably sell or trade one of them. Not to mention all the misc. other non airsoft projects I have including mostly WWII RC models of tanks, aircraft, submarines etc.
All american dan: Once in a while it's nice to have a thread go off topic and just say whatever you're thinking. and with a title like "you guys are gods" there really isn't a main subject anyway. I agree with you. I am willing to make a road trip to a big "national WWII event" I think we may still be a couple years away from that though. But, as airsoft grows and more and more contacts are made I'm sure it will happen.
Guiness: I agree with your gun case idea, hopefully this will be the begining of future friendship and trades.

Schmitty,
I'd certainly be a player for one of your AEG grease guns. I have a feeling we're going to need to have some period appropriate weapons on hand for the local WW2 scene which hopefully will get off the ground nicely starting with the Dec game.
I'm hoping that out of the rapidly growing local airsoft community we find 30 plus folks interested in doing WW2 right and based on casual interviews at Evergreen and PSAC I suspect that will be the case. There's a very strong corp of folks capable of husbanding others along in the early stages with Helmutt, yourself and I able to provide the catalyst.
