I Just ordered one from Airsoft extreme about 10 minutes ago. I Did not order a battery with it for the following reason.
Using a Stock TM AEG with a 9.6v battery is Unhealthy for the gun. It generally results in Chopped up pistons and sometimes even stock gear damage after relatively minimal usage.
I Was under the Impression that People were using 9.6v battery's with there Top MP40s.
Is this true? I Suspect that this may be a major reason for malfunctions.
I Am Asking this because If people Have ben using 9.6v battery's,, then I am going to have an 8.4v custom built.
If people have ben using 8.4 V Battery's, then I Will have a 7.2v built instead.
I really do suspect that Battery size is the Major reason for The Mech box failures.
Also,, Dose any one know of any Stores/retailers that may stock magazines for this AEG? Airsoft extreme only had 2 in stock. And I am looking for 3 more.
Thanks guys!

Failure of that weapon may have something to do with crappy craftsmanship of the mechbox? It scared me away from buying one.

Probably true. In which case more powerful battery's would be more likely to damage the mech box. Especially If people are using 9.4v battery's.
A Weaker battery will Induce less stress on the mechbox.
I Owned an Academy L85SA80 a few years back. You dint get much crappier than that. The mechbox was PLASTIC.
But Using a 7.2v battery,, the "Piece of crap" mech box never failed. (I used it as a loaner gun) a buddy of mines 10 year old kid is still using it with no problems. and the weapon is 3 years old now. I am certain that If I Had ever used an 9.6 volt battery, it would have crapped out long ago.
Which is why I am asking,,,
What size battery's Have people with broken guns Ben using?

I have a Top MP-40 but I can not comment on its durability, I have only used mine in the backyard with a 9.6v and have not had any problems yet. I do agree that higher voltage= quicker wear to the internal parts. But only in the same way that driving a car faster will wear out the tyres quicker. I am using 9.6v on several TM guns and have not noticed that they are more prone to wear or damage than the ones using 8.4v
On a side note, I am still waiting for the assault drum for my MG42 I ordered from Airsoft Extreme, Realizing that they don't actually make these so aren't responsible for the delays, I will say that the Customer service is not very good, It takes several inquireies to get a response.

i had a top m60 that i used a 8.4 insted of 9.6 it helpt, but if the gun is gonna break it's gonna break.. just i question about when, it's a big diffrens with 20 mags for a top and it breaks, and 70 000 rounds for a TM and it's still has not died..

The TOP MP-40 flat out sucks! It is the only airsoft gun I regret buying. I wish I went with a Tanaka K98 instead. There is supposed to be a gearbox upgrade coming ut. I hope so...and I hope it is a VAST improvement over the TOP gearbox. I might get to use it then. Right now my TOP MP-40 is a $450.00 paper weight!

I just don't get TOP, they make really nice and unique guns, but then power them with some of the worst internals known to airsofters.
