I Know several of you have purchased one of these, and have had problems with it already.
Mine Arrived in the mail Friday, And With your previous comments in mind, Here are my thoughts.
First off, TOP is notorious for Producing Crappy Replicas.
A Buddy of mine has a TOP M60 shorty, that he has had for several years. Its ben well used, But its still kicking.
It is STOCK. My Issue with it is the Absolutely 3rd rate Craftsmanship of the body itself. Top M60s look like cheap toys.
Now,, the MP40 on the other hand is a complete turn around. The replica itself is Beautiful. Unlike anything Ive ever seen from top before. Those of you who have one know what I'm talking about.
The first thing I did after putting in the magazine and drooling over it for a while, was to Crack it open to get a look at the Now Infamous Mech box.
After opening it up, probably about 10 Pieces of the Styrofoam from the box it came in, along with 2 fingernail clipping sized pieces of Black Plastic Landed on my work bench. ( The plastic appears to be excess flash from the Plastic piece at the top of the magazine. I Cleaned it off my other mags with a hobby knife.) I Also Noticed, that the Mechbox has Grooves in it that expose the Bellows. these Grooves are easily big enough to allow debris to enter the mech box, and foul the gears. and it seems to me at first glance, that there Might not be any Lubrication in the mech box either. But so far, On First inspection, there appears to be no Deficiency's in the construction of the weapon itself.
Is it possible that Such Debris could have worked its way into Some peoples mechboxes, and Fouled there gears?
Also,, I Noticed that if you Crack open the manual that comes with the weapon, It is printed in both Japanese AND English. I Was reading the Page at the Back of the Book, the one that has a trouble shooting guide on it. And I Noticed a warning, That If the Little Knob on the bottom of the weapon that releases the upper receiver from the lower, is not Properly Turned and closed, It will Damage your mech box, and you will have to return it to the Manufacturer , or distributer for repair. along with similar warnings about dry firring ETC.
So I Picked up my MP40, And looked at the Set Knob in question, And noticed that I Had NOT in fact secured it properly when I re-assembled it. Fortunately, I Have no battery yet, So I have yet to fire it.
I Also noticed in the Book, That Top gives both there address in japan, and an E-mail address. So if, after shaking out the debris from the Mech box, Lubricating it with silicone oil, And following the manuals Instructions to the letter, If it Dies on me. I can always contact TOP for spare parts to fix it.
