Schmitty-
I am considering breaking down and getting a Tokyo Marui Thompson as a backup gun to my Garand and M1 Carbine-
I'm pretty sure it takes the 8.4v 1300mAh nicad battery- is that right?
I also thought you said somewhere that you were using different batteries, smaller but more powerful?? would those work on the Thompson do you know?
Thanks!

I have an 8.4 and a 9.6 for my thompson, I use the 9.6 as my back up battery, the gun works with both.
I have a level one upgraded thompson.
Jim, his thompson has the maximum upgrades he could get and still have it full auto and he has to use a 9.6 volt or it wont work.

I have a 6 volt in mine right now, the ROF is a little lower, but other than that it's fine. YOu can also use 7.2's in them.

First off, Yes get the Thompson you won't regret it. They will accomodate a large variety of batterys including 2000-3000 nicads or Nimhs. I use Li-poly (Lithium polymer) batterys in weapons where space is at a premium since Li-polys hold a lot more juice for their size but they are not necessary for the Thompson. Li-polys are expensive and since they are 3.7v per call you either have to go with 7.4v or 11.1v (2 or 3 cell pack).

Hey Guiness, I've got Johns Thompson running at about 385FPS, full auto on the 8.4v. The main differnce being the ROF is a tad slower *which is fine because it didn't spray bullets as fast as it can bbs*, you supply the parts I'll get her in shape *another benifit of being on HK, free maintance and weapons work*. We can talk at Bull Dog and see what ya wanna do.

What kind of charger do I need? Can I pick one up locally or do I need something special or specific? Seems like I remember someone saying that you didn't need to buy the overpriced ones from Japan?
I always used the factory one before, is there an alternative?

I've used various programable RC rechargers with great sucess. My favourite is this one www.electrifly.com/chargers/gpmm3150.htmlReason for mentioning it is that I can use it for my RC plane, and any other battery pack I need to recharge. There is always the option of a correct simple wall charger, but I rarely trust those "Plug it in for 5 hours or so...until it feels to warm" What? Doesn't sound exact, and I would rather be able to cycle my battery to get the life it deserves out of it.

I totally agree with Rainer. I also use a Triton charger. The only bad thing about it is it runs on 12V DC and has no option to run on AC. But it will charge a huge variety of battery sizes and types. And cycling Nicads and Nimh is very important to get the most out of them.
A triton costs $100-130. If you don't want to spend that much, visit your local hobby shop and ask them. Get a charger that features peak detecting, adjustable charge rate and preferably can also discharge. You should be able to get that for less than $50.
Rainer: What types of airplanes do you fly? I am currently building a P-38 and a BF110 (both electric)

I've got a 48in Gas Piper J-3. She is a little bit ol' an' due for a refit, lol. I'm thinkin' of replacin' her with somethin' a little more challengin' As for the 12V, I charge my batteries at the field, an' I also use to have a 12V power supply, muy handy

In my Thompsons I use Radio Shack 7.2 Nihm batteries. The rate of fire is of course somewhat slower but I like the thump thump thump coming out of the Thmmie gun as it seems "typewriter" right. You do have to file the inside of the stock housing a tiny bit to accomodate the slightly largerwidth of the 7.2 Volt, 3000 Mah, Nihm batttery over the 8.4 Ni Cad they typically use. (A simple modification) The batteries hold a charge easily all day long and areadily available. I purchased a bunch of Radio Shack $10.00 chargers which can switch to either Nihm or Ni Cad settings and have been quite pleased with them. I just leave the batteries on them over night and they are ready to go the next day. I drain the Ni Cads of course prior to charging and thus far haven't had issues with shortened life that I'm aware of.
The Marui Thompson is a great airsoft weapon. Changing mags quickly requires some drill as it is not at all ergonomic in design (You have to line up the channel) but authentic and appropriate to the time.

That is certainly a testimony to the smoothness of the Marui gear box isn't it? I must say I'm delighted with the robust character of the Marui Thompson which is probably the best built and highest quality AEG built.

Thanks Schmitt! My good friend Capt. Zak has already hooked me up! I should recieve the CAW wood kit and upgrade spring and bushing set on Monday as well! I 'welded' the barrel assembly with JB weld also so that front end should be pretty well solid- but even with that, the front end is still the weakest part of the TM product hmmm wonder if I could add an aluminum 'shim' under the connection tab there to take the stress off that piece..... -G

If you ask John reallly REALLY nicely, he can make you a re-enforcement peice like he did with his Thompson, and you'll be good as rain. His is quite solid now, simply by machining a pice of Aluminum to the correct size.

Hi; Can anyone tell me if the CAW Thompson DX wood stock, that fit's the TM M1A1, fit on the Chinese Cyber clone ?. If so , is there much sanding or cutting involved ? The center grip on the Cyber one , has a very tight fit. Thanx: Harvey

Very, very old thread but a worthwhile question. The assorted wood kits fit fine on both the Maruis and the Maruis clones. I have found very minimal filing or sanding required with virtually all of the wood kits I've added and most require none at all. The less expensive Chinese wood kits typically require refinishing as the shade of stain is off. (Typically too light and a redish shade for a Military oiled stock. It is a simple fix.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question but it's a thompson ?. Anyway, I got a CYMA thompson I want to cold blue the thing . How can I do that? I want this thing looking authentic to T. I have a photo shoot with some guys and its possibly going in a magazine. It's slao going to be another pic showing paint ballers how childish they look with all thier gear compared to not knowing the real steel from the airsoft steel. Help me out please!
