Does anyone know if the TOP MP40 high cap and low cap mags would work with the AGM MP40?
Thanks.

No, they will not. They are completely different guns. Thank God since the TOP is so bad.

Does anyone have any idea if AGM will release a hicap for the MP40?

Why a highcap, you need 6 to fill the pouches any way. 6 +1 in the gun you are set.

Yeah it seems that 50 round mag burns up way to fast. I just ordered 3 extras but I have I feeling Im going to need more.

I have 6 already, and find that the mags go by so fast. I mean a mid or hicap would be great!

Oh my God guys! How do you burn, assuming you are using low caps and seven magazines, 350 round of ammunition? I play with a Kar-98 and only load eight rounds into the magazine for it and usually get at least one tag out before having to re-load. But beside the point; are you guys laying down a tremendous amount of suppression fire? LOL or do you not re-load your magazines during re-spawn? I think I might have to start another thread on the Axis tactics board discussing how to conserve ammo in an Airsoft game and the principles of shoot and scoot. That and how not to fire unless the target is in optimal range! Too often do I see guys with an AEG open fire before someone is in their optimal hit range: often costing them a tag out between the time it takes to reload a magazine and the time it takes for a guy who moves in on them for that optimal fire range. ;D Anyway… don’t bad mouth the Top MP-40 it is a decent gun. The AGM is much more affordable and with some work on the G-Box shoots very, very nicely. Oh and I believe someone answer the question about the magazines not being interchangeable. PS. Before anyone mentions I use a riffle… I owned and used a TM-Thompson for a long time. I had six 52 round magazines and could get threw an entire three hours of game time before having to re-load the magazines. Just use one Mississippi second bursts and you will be very surprised at how long a single magazine can last.

I'm aware of how to use trigger control but thanks for the lesson

I respectably agree with Majorray although his conservative example of trigger control sounds extreme to me as well. Low caps are double the ammo capacity of real weapons and while there is no doubt airsoft rounds have no where near the penetrating power through brush as actual ammunition (Thank God!) I think it provides a fair trade off to realism. Changing mags in my opinion is half the experience and provides a greater appreciation for legitimate Mil Sim. With that said, for those of you playing with your WW2 weapons at a more traditional skirmish where you wish to remain somewhat competitive, a mid cap magazine would be nice.
I am delighted that we have regular, large scale games where all players except designated and approrpiately armed players are restricted to low caps only (And often semi fire as well) It makes for a much more exciting and flexible game play that brings strategy and more authentic deployment and tactics into the game.
My greatest dislike of traditional "Paintsoft" is the horribly unrealistic bursts of 30 rounds from people firing just to hear their guns shoot or to insure a elimination by doing the sign of the cross in the direction of their opponent with their favorite BB hose.
With low caps you should still be doing recon by fire and suppressive fire but this is done with trade off and discussion, rehearsal and planning with your team mates. I won't even go to a normal airsoft skirmish as it is simply not a fun day (For me.) That doesn't make those events wrong just different. Thankfully airsoft is growing to the point that natural segmentation among groups with different approaches to the hobby are taking shape.

I have come to hate "Paintsoft" so much I no longer have interest in playing... I'm thinking about selling some of my guns just because of the lack of games worth playing. I'm more interested in reenacting now.

Thanks for the support guys! I like Airsoft games that have restricted ammo load-outs with low and mid caps only. I can’t stand being pinned down by BB hoses unless it is a mounted MG. Such as the M249, MG-42, 30 Cal. Etc. Somehow I don’t find it as painstaking to outmaneuver guns, as those, that are heavy.
I was at a scrimmage one time and a guy literally went through 5,000 bb’s pinning my four man unit down from an elevated position with an upgraded M-4 variant and about six, 400 rd high cap magazines. He had the bag of ammo on him and emptied it in about a 15 minute fire fight in which I shot him down with my, approximately 18th shot. My comrades didn’t even return fire. They just sat there with excellent cover and let me take the shots as they gave him something to shot at. IMO games like this are boring. Who wants to sit behind a dirt mound for 15 minutes and take pop shots at Rambo and his seemingly endless supply of ammunition?
Anyway… point in case. Six mid or low cap magazines are plenty of ammunition for a WW2 Airsoft event; especially if you have team mates that can work as a single unit. Heck even for a modern game six to eight mid or low caps should be enough. Use your ammo wisely and wait to fire at targets in your optimal kill range!!!
Oh and Russianboy, I wouldn't give up on Airsoft. I really don't forsee people using bb hoses in WW2 airsoft events. Most of the guns simply don't have high Cap mags that are worth while IMO.

Say your firing a real MP40. The reason you don't burn out that 32 round magazine so quickly is because you can only fire in short bursts. If you fire it in a spray or just continuously hold the trigger down, the gun will recoil so much that you'll fail to maintain accuracy. Where as airsoft guns have no recoil so nothings stopping you from keeping your hand down on the trigger. And for some people, just holding your hand on the trigger and writing their name in the air with bbs brings so much pleasure that it can get addictive and its hard to take their finger off the trigger. Thats why I think some form of airsoft gun AEG that recoils and doesn't always run on gas would do the WW2 airsoft community some good.
Still, some high cap mags would be nice ;D, mainly for casual airsoft purposes.

Also you can only hold so much ammo on you in real combat. Where as in airsoft I can carry 100,000 sounds in a ruck sack.

You would have to make a exception for MGs/SAWs. Let them maybe carry an extra bag of ammo no greater then 4,000 rounds.

Those big MGs can get ridiculous. I've seen a guy just dump a whole bag of bbs into his M60. It must have been at least 1,200 bbs he just dumped in there. content.kapowwe.com/images3/m60.jpgI haven't played WW2 airsoft yet but is it usual for the Axis side for an MG42 gunner to have an assistant or someone that helps carry his ammo or helps manning the gun, etc.?

I've only got three MP40 mags, so I'll be exercising more caution and discipline with my firing than some of the others with more mags. I'll be burst-firing in 3-5 shot intervals as well.
If I had the extra money right now, I'd grab another 3 and complete my pouch set, but I think I'll be okay if I play smart.

The MG-42 hold, with an auto feed drum, has 1500 rounds and is not easy to change. The AEG gun shoots 1,200 rounds per minute. The Gas and AEG MG-42 with the fake ammo belt holds 400rds and is also not a fast re-load.
I am part of my units MG-42 crew. We have two riflemen assigned to help re-load, provide cover fire and carry ammo and equipment for the MG-42. Mainly batteries, extra ammo, springs and a tool kit for it. I personally lug a dang MG-42 metal ammo canister that has my gas for the k-98 and a container of BB’s for the MG-42.
If we were to play low and mid caps we could easily just use the 400 round fake belts and constantly re-load the MG-42 between burst. I have done this and it is actually fun!

Check out this thread; ww2aa.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=how2&action=display&thread=1158581349 it details how to convert a TOP lo-cap using an UZI hi-cap and the final post says that the same mod can be done to AGM mags the only difference being the top of the mag needs to be fitted the other way round

One realistic way to limit ammo is to require each player to carry the ewquivalent weight of however much ammo he intends to carry. That gets real series real quick. A brick for every 100 rounds or so. (1000 rounds equalls 10 bricks) People say they want to do realistic Mil Sim until it's gets uhhhhhhmmmmmmmm realistic. I don't prescribe to the approach as airsoft is supposed to be fun and we all like being super human. It is just a game but once the point is made restricting people to realistic ammo load outs is much easier. Also guns burn up when fired sustained the way airsofters typically fire them and even heavy weapons have to be fired in burst to sustain their effectiveness even over relatively short periods.
For our crew served weapons we have begun separating the ammo feed supply from the gun itself. To redploy the gun it has to be moved and emplaced and the ammo box which contains either the power, the ammo or both must be hooked into MG through the raised feed tray cover. For a light MG it requires at least a two man crew. For a heavy gun it requires a guy with the gun a guy with the tripod and a guy with the ammo box (battery) We do gun drills and training and it's really cool to watch it get deployed during games. Especially two gun teams supporting one another as the element moves forward.
Killbuckets MGs are set up this way and it is really quite authentic. With most players restricted to ammo limits and semi fire (except designated BAR gunners or sub machine gunners) it justifys the limitations of the MGs realtive to exposure and difficult moving it around.
