I am in need of a new battery for my Thompson, and unfortunately have not had time to order one. Radioshack has a selection of 7.2 and 9.6 volt batteries, but no 8.4 like my thompson came with. Should I go with the lower voltage and lose some power? Or would the 9.6 be safe to use in an unmodified Thompson?

The 7.2 works in the Thompson and since it's very high mah rating (3000 mah) and it is a Nihm battery is a good, durable, long lasting battery. It has plenty of juice to power your Thompson (assuming it isn't upgraded) but your rate of fire will be somewhat down. The 9.6 will dramatically increase your rate of fire. Both a slower and faster rate of fire could potentially be damaging to your gear box but especially the higher rate. I have run my Thompsons and AKs on a 7.2 (I like the slower rate of fire as I think it sounds cooler) with no ill effects. They are very robust batteries when properly charged you won't have to change batteries even in a weekend long event.

it's kind of on it's last legs. Has been since I've been using it I'm afraid. Doesn't hold a charge very long. At least, I can't seem to get it to work with my charger to last very long. Now that I've replaced it I can give it back to you if you really like. Maybe it's my charger not the battery. However, the 7.2v chargers I bought this morning aren't designed for that so.... I'll bring it and we'll figure something out.
P.S. Anybody bringing a discharger to this event? I don't own one and that might fix Jerry's battery
